I guess I had it coming - with recent cr@ppy weather, and my busy schedule, I had left the S for probably 3 weeks without a run. Inevitably, when I tried yesterday, the alarm had drunk all the juice and left none for the starter.

No problem, I'll attach the optimate thingy battery charger. I bought it for my bike to cope with alarm drainage, and remember that alarms don't mind the charge.

Well the alarm on the S objected, and upset the charger too!

I suspect it's because of my interpretation of the charger is wrong - i.e. trickle charge OK with alarm, but full charge too much for alarm to cope with.

Is this right? If it happens again, I really don't want to be disconnecting the battery to charge it - It's hard enough getting to the bitchin' thing in the first place

I wouldn't have thought that by putting on your Charger it "upset" the alarm, even with a flat battery the Charger should (IMHO) only trickle recharge until there is sufficient "juice " in the battery for it to be used.
I had a flat battery under similar circumstances and the alarm was OK.
If in doubt perhaps just disconnect the alarm wires or immobilise it until the Charger has done its job.

Thanks John

Trouble is - can't begin to guess how to disconnect the alarm (suppose it shouldn't be easy for obvious reasons!)

The charger is a Banner Accugard - so I'm going to call Banner and see if I can get a cigarette lighter attachment instead of crawling under the bonnet.

Hopefully I won't need to worry much longer, as I'll be ditching BR and driving to work from the end of March, so S will get a daily run but I still am intrigued to know why the alarm/charger can't get along?
