All,

My V8S has the standard black plastic handbrake grip and gear knob, and I am looking to replace these with some nice wooden items to match the steering wheel and dash (going for a classic look, so no aluminium).

The question is does anybody know from where the original handbrake lever is from, it has a taper from a round section at the tip to oval further back so getting a wooden grip to fit may be tricky.

Also has anybody done this and can recomend parts to fit, can find a few places who do parts for rovers etc but not much else. Finding a gearknob is quite easy, but a matching handbrake grip is proving a challenge.

dont think they do wood though do they?

the rubber handbrake just pulls off - although if its really stuck you may need to use a stanley knife to split it open (dont even think about it Podie )

christ - 2 innuendos in as many posts - Podie will have a field day

sorry - 'fraid I dont know where to source a wood one - might be worth a call to a TVR dealership/TVR gear etc.

Duh!! My bad. Sorry didn't notice the wood bit. Must read threads more carefully. Maybe some kind person could beasure the diameter of the opening s on an alloy grip and you could get one made?

The Mazda MX5 has one of these as standard.. do a quick search on google for "wooden handbrake sleeve MX5" and you should find some.

Cheers
Matt.

Edited to add.... Just found this URL that appealed to my infantile sense of humour of today: www.knobgallery.com/

Contemplating this same thing myself. It has been mentioned that TVR made wooden grips for S's, but i have never seen one, or found proof that they ever existed. I know a wood turner that will make one, but as you mentioned, it may not be possible. When i get the time (he lives over an hours drive away) I'm going to take the car over to him to have a look see. If fitting a completely wooden one is unworkable, it may be possible to have a small aluminium sleeve made to fit over the handbrake, then a wooded handbrake sleeve made to fit over this. But this approach would obviously be more costly.

If you have any joy sorting it out, post your findings, and I’ll do the same.
