Had a problem with the drivers side bonnet catch 'popping' open when going over bumps. In trying to fix this I now find that the driver's side catch will not engage at all. My first approach should be a purge with wd40 I guess. If that doesn't work anyone got any suggestions?

Mine also sticks...

I carry a flat blade just to pop the sprung lock slider into place... Also make sure the pull handle is fully returned to its up rest place.

I have put copious amounts of WD and Grease in and around, David Batty has also reset it but it still sticks....

I just live with it. :shrugshoulders:

See if the bonnet pull hasn't stuck open or pulled. Mine did this once, took me a while to work out what it was.

the bloody bonnet catches on the S are always coming out of alignment and either stick or pop open - i spent 2 very frustrating hours with spanners moving the spring catch back and forward to try and position it just right. Managed it in the end but think I would be inclined to do what brigdav does and spend the 2 hours in the pub

mine used to pop open, it now sticks, whichis margicnally better.

Just fidddle with the alignment for a ouple of hours, graze your knuckles and get oil all over yourself.

the porblem will suddenly not seem so abad then!

Mmmmm..... it would appear that I am about to embark on the journey to becoming a hardened TVR owner. Mental illness seems inevitable!

Stick masking tape over the catch hole and lightly lower the bonnet down so that the spring catch marks the tape. This should give you a better idea as to where to move the spring catch. If it's jumping out then it's too far to the front, if it sticks it's too far to the rear. More importantly though, if it has jumped out quite a few times, then make sure you rotate the spring catch head (the bit with the screwdriver slot in it) around to present a good unworn edge to the catch mechanism. Even on properly aligned catches, these bits wear over time and can start to pop out.

Also worth checking the release handle is not loose and is rotating back properly. I spent a very enjoyable evening on my back with my hands up my column (steering column that is... ). Took it apart, cleaned, lubricated and re-assembled and this has sorted my problems and also stopped the cable falling off the pulley..

Well seem to have fixed the bonnet catches suprisingly easily. I'm sure it was more by luck than judgement. Drivers side sticks now but I can put up with that.

Good tip re the masking tape.

Cheers guys.

Steve.
