Ok....I know this one has been done before but there haven't been any posts on it for a good while, so I wondered if anyone had anything new to add.

I get a buzzing from my gearstick around 3000rpm until 3500 rpm in any gear. It is not a major problem, but a little irritating sometimes. It is definitely not the gear knob itself, but something causing a resonance elsewhere.

Anybody had this, solved this or got any suggestions?

Reverse is a bugger - but I think it is a bugger that is standard on pretty much all S series.....just gotta grip the knob hard and get the wrist action right....(That's gotta be a gift for Podie etc...)

Propshaft needs balancing??? Only say that as I have recently had it done and my gearstick doesn't vibrate anymore.

Thats a good idea Colin - was your gearstick making a buzzing sound?

Where did you get the prop shaft balanced and how much moolah?

I had buzzing if the grub screws holding on the gearknob were at all loose but it also vibrated if I rested my hand on it, plus I had lots of vibration through my seat at 80.

Here's the thread.

I got it done at

Propshaft Services
Central Way North Feltham Trading Estate
Feltham Middlesex
TW14 0RX

Tel: 020 8844 2265

Just of the A312 on the trading estate opposite Tesco's.

I think there's also a place up near Oxford, but I don't have the name to hand. Let me know if you want it and I'll dig it out.

Cost was £18 + VAT however I had already done the joints so it was just balancing. They will do you a full recondiftion if you want. They turned it round in 24 hours and I was very happy with the job done.

Good luck

Cheers for that. I'll look into it.

£18 right - not £180?

Yep hard to believe that you can get work done on a TVR for under £25.....

I had already removed the propshaft which is the hard bit though....

My S2 used to do this, the gear lever is Z shaped and there was enough flex there make a buzzing noise when it hit resonance. Definitely the whole gear lever buzzing and not just the knob in this case. Seemed to happen at the same revs in any gear which I think rules out the prop shaft and suggests the lever was picking up vibration from the engine. Best fix I found is to swap it for a V8S, which doesn't have this problem.
