Can anyone advise me on hood covers....? I have an S3 in good condition. It's kept outside. The hood doesn't appear to leak (yet) and nor does there appear to be a leak anywhere else on the vehicle, although the windscreen is beginning to delaminate because of ingress via the seal. I use the car as a second car, i.e. at the weekends and sometimes during the week when the weather is good. I don't really want a full cover because of the inconvenience, and was wondering about the Leven "hood cover". Any suggestions? Should it be breathable?

I just looked up 'cover' by searching 'S' forums and there have been loads, I would suggest this as a place to start.....

I love my Leven 'car cap' - £150. Not breathable, but doesn't seem to be a problem. Leather look heavy vinyl with soft brushed inside. secured under mirrrors, can also be secured with flaps under boot and bonnet so you can't nick it, but if you're lazy (I am!) the quick release catches under the mirrors will hold it in place.

You should cover the hood - if it doesn't leak today, it probably will another time! Rain isn't the only thing falling from the sky, and you shouldn't use detergent on the mohair (according to the car's user manual)so the hood cover keeps the roof clean. The sun will also bleach the hood in time. I imagine sunlight isn't too healthy for the plastic rear screen either (UV rays, blah, blah...)

I was going to insert pics of mine, but have forgotten how to acces my pics on fotango (website has changed). If anyone can enlighten me, I shall post a couple of pics.

the leven cover is teh answer, as long as you don't live 100 yards from the beach. Mine gets blown around so much I never bother.

I got my cover from Halfords about £50-60 quid
keeps the water out and a good air flow around the car

My Leven's on whenever I'm not using the car. It's brilliant. Well worth the money.

As I couldn't get a garage I got the Leven car cover. Very good item. I use it every day to protect the car. Had some probelms with the stiching, which Leven have offered to rectify once I can get it to them .

Have used it in the North East in all weathers, sun, rain, snow , ice, gales. No problems at all. Best to get it on before the ice sets in though. Couldn't live without it.

I've binned my dunce hat and sorted out the pics of the Leven Car Cap. Flaps front & rear are tucked under bonnet/bootlid so can't be seen, but do stop the blowing around in high winds (rest of time I don't bother!)

You're welcome mate

I can't remember if the destructions with the cover explain properly, but getting the flap in the boot is a bit of a fiddler, depending on how tight your seal is. Open the boot, drop the rear under flap down the gap, keeping it straight. I found pulling through one corner and feeding all the way across to the other side the easiest way (rather than trying to push/pull through the whole thing at once).

Pull it tight, and then shut the lid. Then you can tuck in the bonnet flaps, shut the bonnet, and pull over the top bit over the bonnet edge.

If you use it every day, you'll soon see why I don't bother with the flaps, but it is very secure/windproof with the flaps in! Just using the mirror clips will be enough most of the time as it is very heavy duty, but high winds can flip it over occasionally without flaps tucked (and it's more nickable - but as it's shaped for an S, not a huge market to flog on!)

Buy direct from Leven, or from TVRCC, who can get a few squids commission if you're feeling charitable (no extra cost).

Thanks! I have now taken delivery and am trying to build up the courage to attempt to put it on (and inevitably look like an idiot by putting it on inside out / the wrong way round / or worse, getting stuck inside it) in my busy street. Your tips will help!
