Whilst on my way to the Mid Essex meet yesterday, my first, the V8S decided it didnt want to go and cut out near Stansted. Kenny (Gifdy) said I had just went through a puddle of water so maybe this was the cause or just coincidence. Upon inspecting the ignition leads one of the leads broke, meaning I was then down to 7 cylinders so after getting the car started again I headed home and Kenny went to the meet.

The upshot is, I need a whole new set of Ignition leads, so which are the ones to buy?? Are the Magnecor leads from ACT worth the extra money???

Cheers, and hope those of you that made the meet had a good day and thanks for your help Kenny.

Cheers

Mike

Mike, real shame you couldn't make it... - but good to meet Gifdy..!

I have yet to hear a bad thing about the Magnecor leads, although I am somewhat sceptical when people claim then can "feel" a difference... it's more likely that thier old ones were knackered.

I'd give Tim a call and order some.. might be worth checking the condition of your "king prawns" whilst you're at it.

Yep the ACT Magnecore leads are very good! Just got a set for my S after the previous ones were looking a bit sorry for themselves.

They are nice and blue with red caps. Got the 8mm ones. A friend had a set on his mini and they are that well suppressed/insulated that an inductive timing light couldn't pick up a signal.

Definitley worth it. New set of plugs and coil would be good buy as well. I got NGK BCP6RES.

Guess I must be losing it as well - I got the "King Prawns" bit straight away...help!

Shame you couldn't make it Mike. It was my first meet and great to see so many 'S's together and to meet their drivers. First time I have parked up next to another S for comparison. My shopping list is now bigger !

On the upside - lucky for you your first breakdown was a mild one. Think the car is easing you into it.

Mixed opinions generally on Megnecors, but my view is that they are worth it in the long run as they will not break down from heat exposure in a couple of years. They'll have paid for themselves in maybe 6 years! Plus they look cool (pardon weak pun).

I actually have the 10mm race leads, but the 8mm should be fine. I just wanted to play safe on the 500 with the extra heat involved.

Note that Magnecors sometimes need a slight mod before fitting.

There were some reports that the leads kept popping off the plugs. The remedy for this was that there should have been a small hole in the rubber to allow air realease when fitting it to the plug. Some of these holes werent holes. IE they were still filled with rubber!
Make small holes were they should be and all is OK.
