Hi everyone,

My 1990 TVR S2 hasn't got any radio. Which make(s) and type(s) of radio(s) was/were fitted as standard in the S2?

Thanks for your help.
Regards,
Geoffrey

Top one is a Pioneer KEH-2600 which came with my 1990 S3, don't recall the wiring looking like it had been messed about with so quite possibly the original factory fitted unit?

Lower Sony CDX-5090 unit must have come out of the Chimaera, a '96 model. Quite possibly not factory fit because at some stage a previous owner had a "Mega sound system" fitted, patch in rear bulkhead carpet where a big speaker had been and remnants of thick speaker wire here and there. Never-the-less looks about right for the era to me?

Despite a huge sentimental attachment I could just possibly be tempted to part with either for huge amounts of money... wink

You will no doubt now get various posts along the lines of " don't need a radio just listen to the music of the exhaust", nice as that can be it does get a bit monotonous blatting up the M6 to Scotland or similar !

Is that a cassette player ? I love when people keep them origional (not me mind) but I need something with bluetooth to access my music / handsfree phone.

Use mine everyday mind and I don't have any cassette tapes left. Media obsolescence will be an issue in coming years wink

My S3C came with a Pioneer unit, possibly the same, but the removable fascia was missing, so I swapped it out for a Philips model with no CD player, just radio and USB input. The big benefit of no CD player is the unit is much shorter, leaving more space for the mass of wires behind it!

I bought a radio and iPod unit which has blue tooth and hands free main reason as full depth units crush the wiring in dash as very tight fit. Unit I have is half the depth and leaves a lot more room!

There are loads, from really cheap to very expensive, just go to fleabay and search "car stereo non cd" and you'll get pages of them with or without bluetooth, iPod compatible or not etc.

As I understood, the make chosen for the radio for the TVR S Series was pioneer.
Would any of you have the reference or type of pioneer radio used on the S2?
I do have a philips, blaupunkt or Ford radio that I could use, but would prefer to find the right one used at the time.

Geoffrey

I have a Pioneer KE-2090B. I haven't checked it all working but if it turn out to be OK you can have a for the cost of the postage and a donation to Longer's charity.

Joe - I bought this unit just before going on last Euro-Tour.

I'm sure there will be loads of critical experts out there, but as far as i'm concerned
it does the job. Hands free, IPOD and IPHONE compatible, 2 USB ports and a pretty decent sound.

It also doesn't crush all your wiring - its about half as deep as a regular unit.

There are more on the market now, so should have quite a few to chose from. For me the key factor was how shallow they are.

Yours is a late S2, mine (mentioned above) is very early S3.... imagine same radio/cassette player would have carried through till Pioneer changed model?

An S2 price list I have from '89 lists under Dealer fitted options "Uprated Radio Cassettes" but no mention of what may have been offered.

A later S3 / S3c price list from '91 lists Stereo Radio Cassette under standard features, again no mention of model.

Guess TVR didn't want to reprint all their literature every time Pioneer changed their line up!
