Classic Spa Trip - Extra Day or Two Anyone?
Discussion
As the return trip for this is Bank Holiday Monday I'm wondering if anyone is interested in extending the "tour" for an extra day, or two, to avoid the busy roads and expensive ferries and make the trip a bit more relaxed.
I have no fixed ideas but here is a suggestion:-
Monday 25th May - morning - travel to Nürburgring. There is a small hotel by the castle which is handy for the Ring and an easy walk to the Pistenklause steak restaurant for later.
Monday afternoon - spend at Ring. Have as many laps as you want.
Monday evening - Pistenklause steak restaurant.
Tuesday 26th. Either (i) drive to ferry - 475kms, or (ii) drive to Bruges - 380kms - and spend the evening in the city. Then to Calais on Wednesday.
Longers has offered to help me with recommending/sourcing hotels so this isn't totally dependant on my organisational skills.
Anyone interested?

Hi Joe,
Will the 'Ring be open for public laps on the Monday?
I think Longers has said that those wishing to do so will have the opportunity on the Sarurday, but last time we went it was VERY busy
Poor Barry was riding shotgun for me and when we finished he was as white as a sheet. It might have been the 100 mph speed differentials but it was impossible to follow the racing line in safety.
We only happened upon two major prangs ( nothing to do with us I hasten to add ) in our single lap, but we decided not to bother going round again & tempting fate. I think Barry was out of the car before we had stopped
It wasn't really enjoyable, not like our laps of Spa
So I'm not that bothered about spending a lot of time at Nurburgring, although the Pistenklause is very tempting.
As for extending the trip, I quite like the idea of a few hours or overnighting in Bruges, and I would love to return to Ypres, that is an amazing experience, especially the Menen Gate Last Post Ceremony, which takes place every evening.
I'll wait until you get a consensus of opinions & an itinerary sorted, then decide.
Je m'asseyerais cependant sur le fence.

According to this the track is open. At least I'm assumimg it is if the tour service is running because I was under the impression that they went round during public opening times.glenrobbo said:

I was scared just watching! The drive to the 'Ring was fantastic but when we got there all the approach roads were jammed and the car park was packed. The drive back to the hotel in the evening was amazing wasn't it?

Sounds like it could be a great day's drive!

I assume you mean "Je m'asseyais cependant sur le fence". In which case be warned as creosote burns sensitive areas

Future conditional tense? Or something like that.
I may be completely wrong, my schooldays were way back before the dawning of history.....
Will have meanwhile been sitting myself.......???
I am feeling rather tense now you've mentioned the creosote. I thought that stuff had been banned.

What's that? I shall bow to your considerable knowledge
I was one told ".. you speak French like a Spanish cow". This was in a bar in Corsica; the bloke who said this was wearing a French Foreign Legion uniform. I chose to agree with him and buy him and his mate a drink. One of my wiser decisions
