Could someone out there with an S1 do me a favour and let me have a photo showing the attachment of the hood hoop at the hinge. Doesnt matter which side of the car. S1 please as there may be a small difference on the later cars.

I'm sure for certain but I think they are all the same ie am M8 bolt through the hoop, some big washers as spacers and just bolted up inside the void between the inner and outer wing.

Correct me if I am wrong will you please, and please let me know if it is the same on all S types:

Is this assembly correct:

Hood hoop is held in by a single bolt on each side. That bolt also provides the pivot.

On early cars there is merely a hole in the grp hoop for the bolt to go through. On later cars there is a steel insert in the grp, although this will not be obvious if the trim is on.

The end of the hoop fits into the cavity between the inner steel plate (which is bonded to the body and not part of the chassis) and the outer grp panel (which is the rear quarter panel).

The bolt goes from the inside of the car through the steel panel and then the hoop, with the nut (preferably a locknut) in the cavity. (Awkward to get at!)

There is a washer under the head of the bolt, spacers as required between the steel plate and the inner side of the hood hoop, there is a washer on the outside (under the nut).

The hood hoop is designed to pivot on the bolt, rather than clamp to the bolt and the bolt turn in the plate.

Bolt is left loose (nylok nut) and I suspect TVR didn't really put a lot of thought into whether the bolt pivoted in the body or the frame pivoted on the bolt.... so long as it moved wink

Mine has very short pieces of what looks like plastic heater ducting to hide the packing washers (used to take up manufacturing tollerences) between hoop and body.

Thanks BarryS1, helpful.

You must have been mystified why I needed that. Truth is that the new hood wouldnt work properly, in particular it wouldnt go down properly.
The steel plate, to which the hood hoop attaches, goes back and round to join the turret for the seat belt mounting. Turns out that this steel plate is formed slightly differently on one side of my car compared to the other. This means that the hood hoop fouls on one side before the other. On the old hood the trim had merely been worn/gouged away, and the carpet deformed, long ago until it fitted. On the new hood of course an unforseen problem arose. The difference made a remarkable difference and the hood was prevented from going back by several inches. So much so that it appeared at first that something was seriously wrong. The solution wasnt obvious at first but when the problem was identified all we had to do was to trim the carpet slightly and to add packing washers to that side to move the hoop slightly further in.

(Incidentally, nobody picked me up on my deliberate mistake on assembly!!)
