Rear crankshaft oil seal
Discussion
Hello all,
While under the car taking the gearbox out I noticed a slight oil seepage coming from the back of the flywheel. I have removed the flywheel to see where the oil is seeping from and it looks like it's from the very bottom of the Crankshaft oil seal. I have a new seal but wanted to know if anyone here has done this job or if there is any info on how best to tackle the replacement?

Fetching the old seal without damaging anything other than the seal shouldn't be too difficult..........
....... It's getting the new one in without damaging it that's the tricky bit, unless you happen to have the special tool clicky, page 00-01-21
If you have room....you can put a little grease onto the end of a small drill (to catch any swarf) and carefully drill a small hole in the metal part of the seal and near to the outer edge but obviously not too near, sometimes the self tapper will start without a drill so try this first. Then screw in a small self tapping screw and use a lever (screwdriver eg) to prise out the seal. I've used this method lots of times in the past with no issues, usually when the seal is fairly deeply seated and its almost impossible to remove, you just have to be careful with the swarf with the drill method thats all.
