V6 engine swap
Discussion
I have a 1988 TVR S1 with the 280, here in the US. I'm not a mechanic so go easy on me, gents. What are the principal considerations in plotting an engine swap? I wouldn't do it myself but want to research if it's feasible before finding a local independent. My motor is fine as it is, I'm just interested in this swap idea....
Rather than V8 swap, I was thinking about the Duratec 35 with a Lincoln LS manual transmission (common swaps into the Ford Rangers here apparently). Where do I go to find out its dimensions compared against the Cologne V6? Would it require a whole new electrical setup too?
Just thinking aloud - what things should I consider and look into?

How about finding the Ford Ranger Forum (I'm guessing there must be one), and tracking down some one who has done the conversion?
You will need the appropriate engine loom for the engine you choose, 2.8 has a very basic electrical system.
It is often the "extra's" that take time which, if you're not doing it yourself, equals money! Sorting or fabricating suitable exhaust manifolds, fabricating engine and gearbox mountings, modifying the propshaft, getting speedo to work etc. etc.
Philpot makes a good point best send you speedo and tach to speedy cables now... Should be getting back next week...
It's only been 14 weeks...lols...
But seriously I've really missed them...
If in the us I would use the 3.5 cyclone it was designed to be the same size as the AJ30 and that fits in mine.
Your engine loom and management will probably be $2000 fitted plus mapping alone.
Cheers

There is a web site in the Us Hihttp://www.britishv8.org/index.htm there are a few TVR's with engine changes. link to a TVR with a conversion

I am sure there are other TVR's in the US.

....Ok, how about conceptually then.....
Anything is possible given, time, money and skill. See what Alan is doing....http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
And Damian is being somewhat modest here about not showing you what he has done..

But if you're seriously considering something like this and you're going to pay someone to do it all for you, then you'll need seriously deep pockets.

Wow memories... Still not completely finished 3.15 diff going in this week.
If only I'd known then what I know now... Would have saved a fair bit.. Great engine and box should have gone for simpler ecu and a bmw diff.. Of and of course the 3.7 from a mustang...
That said she is proper quick now... Not stupid but really quick..
Cheers Damian s3duratech..
