Think my S is poorly
Discussion
Cutting a very long story short, the air mass meter failed which meant a new one and a revised chip for the ECU. It took several attempts to make the car driveable and the only real solution was to have the car mapped so off to the experts for this to be done.
At the garage I mentioned the voltmeter was dropping when the lights or heater was turned on and after a couple of minutes investigation the guys discovered that the wiring was an absolute mess. A stable voltage was a must as the ECU programming could not be done without this. The wiring was pulled down from behind the glovebox and it was 'warm' to say the least. They found 47A going through 2 wires after seeing them hot through a special meter, 2 groups of connectors were nearly burnt out, the list went on.
Remedy was to have relays installed and basically rewired, this had to be done before any mapping could take place. Glad this was found as its a miracle car hadn't gone up in flames before now, especially seeing as how charred the original wiring was!
All went well, had the car mapped on a dyno and it put out impressive figures, pulling like a steam train.
Took the car for a quick run before loading back in the trailer and that's where the fun began.
Car is making like a whistling/whining noise when loading up on throttle. Does it in all gears and is only on throttle, not on lift off.
Any ideas in case anyone has had this or something similar.
Have spent a fortune on this car and this will be everything now 100% sorted. After my experiences with the car though I can't help thinking maybe its time for us to part company as getting a bit hacked off with it now

Can you narrow down where it's coming from ? I've had a similar sound which turned out to be an air leak in the plenum joint directly below the throttles. When the AFM was replaced, perhaps something was stressed or disturbed ?
It was really late (gone 11pm) and we were all tired. It sounded like it was coming from behind the heater switches so it is in that kind of area..
Car is in Wales and I live near Preston so just left car there!
Will let the garage know as a pointer for them........many thanks.

If it's in the engine bay, then air leak... I had similar whistling sound after I had been tinkering which gave me a "what the hell is that" moment, on inspection I had left a vacuum hose which I had moved outta the way disconnected and it was that
There was an air leak from a hose that went into the plenum, engine went faster when they sprayed some fluid around it. Maybe the pipe came loose again?
Fingers crossed its not a gearbox problem?
Thanks - Tony

A 23 year old car will never be 100% sorted

I've got £5000 "burning a hole" in my pocket and prepared to take a gamble.

Hi Tony
Not spoken since Spa, sorry, to hear you feel that way.
Think as the others are saying, I'd leave well alone.
The car ran beautifully on the Euro Tour last year.
I tailed Stu for most of the time. Brilliant fun.
Need to be out and give he some legs and enjoy her for how she is.
Faults and all, 23year old technology is well 23 years old.
She got you to Spa and back ok
Hope to see you at Millbrook on Sunday or maybe even Silverstone Classic.
Regards
Simon.

I hear what all are saying.
Unfortunately I had to have it mapped etc as it wasn't running correctly after the air mass meter failed.
The wiring would have set the car on fire so again, had to be done.
Have decided to persevere and it will be sorted soon.
