To celebrate another mot pass and to try and make up for a lack of use over the last year I went for a quick spin.....
200 miles later the only problem I had was a blown 10a fuse for the instruments and indicators. Tried to replace and it lasted about 20mins and now it blows on ignition...

Anyone had a similar issue? Short circuit somewhere or earthing problem perhaps?

Hah! I've been battling with this problem since early last year, but I think I've finally nailed it.
It's the circuit that contains lots of pale green wires which feed many things, including the alternator warning light, and the cig lighter 12v socket.
Try disconnecting the cig lighter supply plug behind the cover that tucks under the side of the centre console ( S1/S2 ) and see if that makes any difference. If it does, check if the cig lighter body has a short.

Another possible cause is failing diodes in your alternator.

Beyond that, it's a long process of elimination of each and every wire on each branch of that circuit fed by the 10amp fuse.
I got through an awful lot of those trying to find the culprit. That's the problem with intermittent faults, you never know if you've cured it.

Great advice...cheers!
Luckily it was the former rather than the latter causing the issue....Had trouble keeping my satnav in the lighter socket but hadn't made the connection (no pun intended). Screwed the socket back togther properly and fuse problem solved!

Hopefully that's solved it for good and saved me many hours of searching for the problem.
