Brake cylinder question
Discussion
Having read the topic here:
http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
I know I have the type 3 cylinder.
But, the only number I can see is one on the white cap and it's not one of the ones listed:

Does this mean there's one missing off the list? I can't find any reference to the number I have on the net.
Just want to be sure before I go ahead and order one.
Thanks,
Steve

There are five feeds to the cylinder and one bleed screw.
There are two feeds to the cylinder (white caps)And three feeds from the cylinder (copper pipes)

Most forward two should go one to each front caliper and the rear one to rear brakes ( with that nice neat pipework should be easy enough to follow them
). I don't believe there is any need to have a bleed nipple there, I think it is just an easy way to bung up a spare hole! That is a bit odd. You have the remote reservoir of the SAAB type. We do know that a few later cars did have SAAB rather than Ford sourced servo/mastercylinder units but I would be surprised to find one on an S3. If it was a SAAB unit then the master cylinder is TRW part PMH237, which would be very hard to find indeed. I am going to try to enlarge the picture and have another look later.
Steve, I did notice that the servo appears a bit rusty. If it is like that on top you should check the underneath, that is where they go. If you can afford it you should think of changing the two. I do know someone who has a new original servo/mastercylinder complete unit that he doesnt need any more, and could put you in touch.

My S3, albeit a very early one, had the messy remote reservoir set up when I bought it.
Mine, too, too....there have been other threads recently about people using Ford Ka ones...but you will need to check.

For information:
I've found these links to the Saab servo and master cylinder:
http://www.bestpartstore.co.uk/2210976
http://www.onlinecarparts.co.uk/trw-2208711.html
They match the part numbers in
http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
It seems that the parts aren't unavailable/discontinued any more.

Well done Steve, I am utterly amazed by that.
If these guys do prove to have these parts then I wonder where they have appeared from? A few of us have tried to find them without success, and have even bought from abroad. Price is quite fair too. If you decide to check them out then please let me know the result
as soon as you can, this could be of immediate value to a few other members.

There's a Bosch master cylinder from the same people as the servo and it's £27 cheaper.Steve
