Bonnet latch removal?
Discussion
Hi All
Does anybody know how the bonnet latch - the part on the top of the front wing - is fastened in, and therefore how it can be removed?
I'm about to start work getting the body ready for painting, and trying to decide whether to remove, paint over, or just mask it up.
Cheers for any help.

I took mine out last week to give it a clean as it was sticking. As Han says, access is through the entry of the heating pipe under the dash. I had to open the door wide, sit on the ground, move the heating pipe out of the way and then reach up through the hole with a socket. The bolt head was covered in GRP/resin so I had to scrape it off (blind, not easy!) so that the socket would go on!
You only have very small range of movement with a socket wrench, but once you have the initial bit of friction off, it was easy enough to just screw out by hand using the socket alone.
Give me a shout if you need any more info.

OK. All done now.
Resin cut away with a woodwork chisel and the bolts finally came out after a couple of hours in Plusgas. Tight all the way for me, but that's normal the state this car is in!
Thanks for your help folks.
Makes you think there must be a better way to lock the bolts once you get the right 'pressure' between the sliding plates of the catch.

Yes that is normal and can be the cause of the catch sticking and releasing the bonnet when on the move. See my experience here.

Mine is still working fine and the sponge is so much neater than the silicon
Too late now for the OP but personally I'd have left it in situ. Once all the silicon muck has been picked out there is a void all around the catch which makes masking off dead easy. I managed to clean out the sliding surfaces of the catch with dentists' pick & probes and some narrow bands of emery cloth. Each to his own though.
