s 1 steering rack

Ok guys here goes I've read lots and lots of posts on steering racks for my car and it seems there's no real proof to how or what it was built from. I thought I'd found one to be told they made 2 types for the s1 and mine is the early one which of course his wasnt. I've looked at the chevette route but I'm now wondering if that was correct for my car. I know as said there's no real info on this but any info would be great or even peoples views etc, I don't have one at all by the way missed placed by last owner

As far as I know, it's a modified Chevette rack with Ford tie rods ( Escort? ) and some Lotus internal bits thrown in for good measure. You may have to go searching for a replacement, David Gerald Sportscars were breaking an S recently.
For overhaul, try Kiley Clinton, they are familiar with the S steering rack. They may even be able to supply one, but don't hold your breath on that one Tony.

Edit: What was the one you found from? If it was from a later S, I would think it could be adapted to fit? What were the differences according to your contact?

I am not aware of any significant differences in the racks fitted to the V6 S cars, I have checked the 'bible' and the parts lists and there is no reference to alternatives, although someone may know otherwise.
Given the nature of the mountings I would have expected the racks to be interchangeable. There is one S on ebay being broken.
