Hi All,
What is the secret for refitting a gearbox?
I have replaced the clutch but cannot manage to replace the box.
Has it grown since I took it out??
Whichever idiot designed the chassis did not allow for easy maintenance!
Any ideas welcome before the angle grinder comes out!!!

Maybe see some of you at the NEC on Sunday?

Regards
Bill

Funny you should mention angle grinder, try grinding a bit off the webs on the tailhousing this will help it go up past the brackets on the chassis.
Do you have the n/s rocker cover and dizzy cap off to allow the engine to fall right back?

Have a play around with a google search, plenty of advice out there somewhere..... one to start you off

Recently just fitted mine which was a struggle for just one person but is doable.

Firstly as Mike has already said take dizzy cap off and oil filler and jack the engine from the front as far as it will go tilting the engine down at the rear. The webs on my gearbox had already been ground out to allow a bit more wiggle room.

Then jack the front of the gearbox up to the correct height so that the input shaft aligns with the hole in the clutch and get it as close as possible without snagging the clutch.

Lift the gearbox at the rear whilst slowly pushing it forward to ease into the spigot bearing then the knack is to rotate the gearbox one side to get above the mounting bracket and then rotate the other way and hey presto the gearbox will be above the mounting brackets and in line and just need pushing fully home.

Thanks guys,
It's in!
Removing the rocker cover made the difference, I hadn't noticed it touching the bulkhead.

Cheers
