Penrite HPR15 15/60
High zinc content and about average price compared to others.

Recommended to me by a guy that builds MGBV8 race cars.

ETA Also used HPR 40 25W-70 (Mineral)

Valvoline VR1 20/50 mineral oil. Gives me just under 50psi even on very hot days. Remember Germany? That hot!

This is what I use. One of the V8 engine builders recommended it. You can usually find it on offer at Euro car parts.

If you ever get a chance to look at the distance between the "vanes" inside the oil pump you'll see why thick is good thumbup This is a very old engine design, so I'd suggest that this "old-school" oil, but with all the modern additives, is ideal for our old lumps (IMHO). And very reasonably priced as well, and it comes in 5ltr cans. Watch out for Euro Car Parts service though; it's crap. If you have a branch near you, go in and get the oil yourself rather than trust their mail order. I ordered 5lts Of VR1 earlier in the year and they send me ATF! Returning it was a pain in the arse.

You can get an OE oil filter from your local Land Rover dealer at a sensible price, eg about £12.

Another +1 for valvoline. Mine loves it, so does the garage floor at times too though wink

Valvoline vr1 is also in TGTVR so it makes sense to use the same. Thanks.
