I decided to upgrade the clutch hydraulics and after being let down by a supplier made my own stainless braided hose with a 90deg 7/16" UNF banjo connector for the master cylinder and a straight 7/16" UNF banjo for the slave.
The problem is that the banjo bolt for the slave cylinder doesn't tighten up properly almost as though the threads are a different size.
Firstly has anyone else had this problem? if so how did you resolve it?
I wondered if it was because the thread was tapered inside the slave cylinder or have I stripped the thread?

Shouldn't be tapered thread?

Maybe try running a tap down it, but any swarf will need to be thoroughly cleaned out!

The original slave cylinder probably isnt 7/16 UNF. The original slave cylinders were supplied specific to TVR and have a different thread. 7/16 UNF has 20tpi, many S's definitely have a clutch slave with 26tpi and you will struggle to get the union even from a specialist. Spanner size is pretty much the same which is confusing. Have a look at your original union and check the tpi.

One solution is to get a Landrover slave cylinder which does have the much more readily available 7/16th UNF, and is very readily available and will be a lot easier to deal with in the future. The correct part number is 591231 which is most readily sourced as Landrover Defender Series 3. Use your original clutch slave pushrod.

On the chance that it's the wrong thread I've invested in a new slave cylinder fingers x it's the old slave and not the fitter that's at fault rolleyes

I've got my original copper pipe and connectors that I can drop up to you if you want them.

I could also dig out my invoice for my braided hose too to see if it has any technical spec?

Thanks for the offer Max but I have my copper pipe as a backup so hopefully the new slave will solve the problem.

Chris, can you do us a favour please and record the length of the pipe while you have it off, helpful if anyone needs to get one made up.

Richard,
There are two different lengths depending on whether the clutch fork is mounted on the right side or the left side of the bell housing.
For SS braided, I seem to recall it's something like 1 metre and 1.5 metres, but that needs confirming.
Good old TVR wink

ETA: That's with the Type 9 gearbox.

I used a pre-made 1/4" flexi pipe I "found", it is just long enough at 900mm but given the choice I'd go for a metre.

Yup ordered 1 meter but cut it down to 90cm with plenty of free play

Here's a photo of my original which seems to have the 7/16" 26 tpi (the gauge gap is set at 1/2") frown
So, I'll be keeping this to fit back on later smile

I measured the original Copper pipe length from my S2 and it's 950 mm.
