Hello All,

I'm just starting my rebuild and I have a small dilemma. Right now, I have an empty chassis and I was wondering what is the best order for re-fitting the engine, gearbox, drive shaft and differential ?

I would prefer to refit the engine last of all. So, in this order : 1. Differential + Half Shafts, 2. Main Drive Shaft, 3. Gearbox, 4. Engine.

Is this the best sequence ? Or, is it easier if I refit the engine first ?

Any suggestions/advice will be much appreciated.

Tim

Which ever sequence you use I would put the engine and box in as one.
Saves trying to mate them up insitu.

Best way? Don't know but the order I used was:
Diff cradle.
Diff.
Prop shaft.
Gearbox on engine and all in as one lump.

This was before anything else went on the chassis, many people build a rolling chassis first but I didn't want to have to work around all the suspension etc.

It needs to be on fairly high stands to get the angle to feed in the engine and box, I think mine was at around 20".

Hope that helps,
Carl.

Certainly put engine and box together first before fitting into chassis.
Not sure if it is the same on the later cars but it is difficult to get the prop shaft out of my car without moving the diff so I think if I had the chance I would put the shaft in and hold it in approx the right place with wire/wood/string while you fit the diff. Never done it with a bare chassis though so someone may want to add to that?
