Small Door Speaker Needed Please

This is one of the original door speakers...





Has anyone got one, or a pair they don't want? It's 4" across the cone. The mounting holes are117mm centre to centre.

I did check all four speakers after dismantling the the interior and the whole system worked fine. Now though one doesn't. Unfortunately I've now cut and trimmed the panel to suit this size of speaker so a direct replacement would be ideal. Fingers crossed!

What's up with the poorly one Joe?

There's not a lot to go wrong with an old style speaker like that, aside from a torn cone or a pigtail adrift. Have you tried dabbing a supply direct across the terminals?

Well how weird is that? I flicked 12v across the terminals and now the resistance is back to 4 Ohms. I'll connect it back into the car again tomorrow and see if it works.

Any electricky wizards out there like to offer up a theory?

If you are not careful and you press on the cone unevenly, the Cu wire windings/coil can get stuck inside the magnet. Putting 12V across the terminals will free the coil, or maybe burn it out, depending on how much it is stuck.

Maybe that's what happened when the speakers were in storage. Would that account for the 9 Ohms reading? It's back to 4 Ohms now.

It was just a flick so hopefully no harm done. I'll know tomorrow.

It works! Obviously the coil was just stuck and the 12v "flick" freed it off.

NO CHANCE! It' just that two TVRs is a bit of an extravagance. Once I'v got all the electrics sorted, the re-trim finished, fixed the water leaks and tidied up the engine bay I'll see how I feel about it.

Sounds a lot still to do but I'm nearly there.
