The 2.9 V6 engine has been known to snap the end off the dipstick. Won't go into the why's and wherefore's but it happens.
I don't see that the broken off end will be a problem (it wasn't on mine), it will lie in the well of the sump and may or may not come out when the oil is drained.
But not having a dipstick is a little bit of an issue, so...............
Option 1: Solder a length of 1.6mm welding wire to the broken stub (this didn't snap this high up, I cut it shorter)
Option 2; Is from a Mercedes, pull the handle off, modify a bit to fit Ford tube and shorten the wire.
Option 3: Is from a Renault, again the top needs a little "tweaking" and it needs shortenning.

Measurements, if anyones interested are, from the top, 345mm to "max", 370mm to "min" and 390mm to end of stick

No doubt there are many more options, too long is not a problem, too short could be.... and these were cheap
