Bad part is that I tossed the old once away, stupid I know!
Why the ...!!!The original Ford part numbers are in the new alternative parts list (link in the Useful Links page at the top of this S Series forum). I'm sure somebody will know the donor vehicle, probably Sierra and Granada, but they're likely out of stock by now. You could try Prolinx, GKN Driveline, or ebay for new old stock. Worst case, it is not horrendously expensive to have them made to spec. Which of course you can't do without help, now.
From when I snapped one on my v8
[quote]For the benefit of whoever breaks one next, of the millions of different length and designs of shaft Ford used over the years I ended up using 466mm shafts from J&R cv joints, part BAR2 (they list it for the left side of various Sierras and Westfield. These have slightly shorter splined sections that don't have the circlip grooves cut into them (and don't have an inner circlip at all), if you've previously bought cv joints and wondered why the circlips are too small this is the shaft they're for. The shaft itself is slightly thinner so is probably slightly weaker but at least it won't fail in the same way the old one did.

I think I have some second hand ones somewhere, can get measurements for you or you can have the shafts if you're happy with "used"?
Think they're Ford Sierra but Sierra has two different lengths and S uses two of the short ones ?
I did measure the shaft and it was 445mm with out the cv-joints on

Interesting to see those have a thickened middle section. I don't remember seeing that on my OE shafts. Are these originals? The suppliers I've dealt with since then have all recommended thinner shafts so that there is more torsional flex to take up snatching in the transmission. My experience has been that is counterproductive on the S series because it promotes tramping, but to be fair I've contributed to that problem with other mods and it may not be such an issue on a car that hasn't been messed about so much.Speed Matters | S Series | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
