After a recent flying roof panel incident I've decided to fit roof catches to my S2. I have sourced the catches (from RS - thanks to the advice in a previous PistonHeads post) however I now realise that I don't have the mountings that go between the catch and the panel itself. These are the (presumably) rubber mounts that fit the contour of the panel to provide a flat base for the catch, and bring it to the same level as the surround.

Does anyone know where I might get hold of these mountings? Or perhaps have a suggestion as to what alternative I could use?

I may also be interested in buying a set of complete roof panels if anyone has them for sale - mine are starting to look a bit tatty, particularly after their recent brush with the tarmac.

Thanks

How is it that you don't have the catches on anyway?

Roy.

Good question. To be honest, it's something I missed when I first looked at the car.

Apparently they have been missing for at least the last couple of years. I am guessing it's not been such a problem as the previous owner rarely took it out with the roof on ...

You could get them re covered. The mounting blocks are actually Aluminium and curve to fit the contour of the roof.

Ian

Which part of the clip are you missing..??

Did the part not come supplied with the clip assembly from RS..?

Is it the part pictured.....

If so you might be in luck....

I still have a new set of clips that I still haven't got round to fitting, although they are plastic...

I have also sent a set to 'Pstruck' (Peter). He may well have the plastic locator clips (pictured) spare after fitting fitting the rest of the assembly.

On my S1 there were no clips, but I noticed at the Pershore dealer that they were standard fit on the then new S3 - after a room off moment on the A34! I got the clip as shown from the factory - you could phone them in those days. The issue is the S3 window frame is modified to accept the small lug. I tried it one way (upsided down)- which was fine. Years later Portsfield (then the Chichester dealer) changed the orientation and added a plastic spacer between the over-centre catch and the roof panel.

So all the stuff in the drawing is needed - and it appears an extra spacer on the roof panel. However that doesn't help Ian, try a dealer or the usual suspects - D+G etal.

I only fitted one catch - on the driver's panel.

As mentioned above, the mounting blocks are aluminium. I have just had mine off to paint them and replace a catch. I would think that these are TVR special part, but it should not be too difficult to make some up. You could use nylon if available.
The screws in mine were very rusty, so I fitted new ones. They are about 1" long self tappers.

Thanks for the advice guys.

Have called TVR engineering and they have given me the part number: S28U-10209. Peter is spot on, the mountings are a specialist part that is made of aluminium.

Good news is that they are still available through a dealer - around four quid each. Henley-TVR happened to have one in stock (I got the last one - so a bit of luck there) which is now on it's way.

I'll report further when it arrives and I actually try to fit it!

Nice one Glad you found one easily, saves you having to make one, and £4 isn't bad.

Just on the off chance ,anyone know where to get these ally mounting blocks spoken of above ?

Her roof was completely recovered by dave the trimmer for 900 quid before she bought the car ,and there are no clip mounting blocks , we have bought the catches from rs, and it would be quicker to buy something rather than try to make them .muchas gracias smile

robert.
