S-Club Tour Tribute Tour - S-Crub - Chasing the Gecko
Discussion
Following the unfortunate - but fully understandable - news that there will not be a 2026 edition of the S-Club Tour by Fasttrack Tours I have decided to revisit a previous tour. Namely, 2018's Chasing the Dragon around Wales.
Now, this tour was shorter than normal as it was the first year FTT offered the combined Euro Tour taking in the Classic GP at Monaco and Spa Classic so Ian was busy busy. This shorter than normal arrangement included a lunch time starting and finishing points.
So, I set out for you the S-Crub Tribute Tour 2026 Part 1 "Chasing the Gecko". You are free to copy this as tribute or not.
Serious bit first - I am not offering this as a package or expecting payments of any form. The following is purely informative.
Day Zero;
The stating point for the 'official' route is Ross-on-Wye. I don't live in Ross-on-Wye, so have booked into the Cwrt Bleddyn Hotel and Spa near Usk. This means I can drive over from London, visit Cwm Carn Forest to show Gecko where Baba used to ride and finally drive the Forest Drive.
Day One;
Appears to be a few options for cross country routes to the starting point in Ross-on-Wye. I'll follow the route from Ross-on-Wye to Swansea and staying in The Dragon Hotel in Swansea. Parking needs to be pre-booked.
Day Two;
Heading off and following the offical route until we get to Coed-y-Brenin where I get a chance to show Gecko some more riding and enjoy some nice cake in the visitor centre. From here, following the route via Portmeirion up to Lanberis. This is the finishing point of the official route. I am, however going to carry on North and back down to stay at the Golden Fleece Inn at Porthmadog.
I believe there are some below ground Hobbit Houses with llamas in the area you can stay at but I had already booked the Fleece
Halfway through the tour so a moment of reflection and rememberance will be held.
Day Three;
This was a half day originally zig zagging westward heading for a group lunch in Oswestry to complete the Tour. Instead of this, we are going to head up to Anglesey and do a loop of the coastal road(s) including trying to find the milkshake vending machine. There also appears to be a large number of castles along this loop. Then heading down to Lanberis around lunchtime to pick up the fional leg of the original route. Staying the final night at the Lion Quays Resort in Oswestry.
Day Four;
Heading back to London (following a morning swim) with a stop off at Caffeine and Machine, The Hill in Warwickshire for some food and to have a nose around any interesting cars. No great rush and there is a Thirsty Thursday event on from 5pm.
I didn't do the Tour in 2018 so it'll be new to me.
Dates? Well, I'm heading out of London on Sunday the 29th of March and returning on Thursday the 2nd April.
