I was on my way into work this morning, minding my own business, going round a roundabout 2 minutes from the office when someone decides to pull out in front of me - and then stop! With bugger all room to brake, I simply slid into the side of him.

The upshot is, my bonnet's pushed backwards and crooked, rubbing against the wheels and sporting various scrapes, chips and cracks.

Luckily, the other guy admitted liability (couldn't see how he could do otherwise), and my car has now been recovered to Harrison & Co. in Farnham (behind Hawthorns). They took a quick look and reckoned the bonnet's repairable and it'll just need new hinges and frame, plus full bonnet respray (is tha the silver lining? ).

Not a great start to a Thursday, but at least everything seems to be going smoothly through the insurers. Looks like I'm going to be driving round in an Astra/Focus for a couple of weeks, but I'll hopefully get a properly aligned and stone-chip free bonnet at the end of it.

After the stuck boot debacle you're not having much luck Richard, sorry to hear about this happening.

Well, it could have been a lot worse I guess, and you've had your bad luck for the year, so no bad news come next service I'm sure...

This is very true, and I only ended up fitting the new solenoid last night!

Still, I think it all could have been a lot worse, as you say, and hopefully I'll only be TVR-less for a few weeks.

At least its not too bad and you get the chance for a shiny new bonnet, maybe some indicators and lights perhaps? Worth investigating protecting the nose once repainted, whats the stuff, Armourfend? Something like that anyway..

... and whilst they're at it, spraying a Mica Blue S3 bonnet, do you think they would mind doing mine at the same time....
Maybe there's a buy-one-get-one-free deal to be had.
Seriously though, I hope it works out ok. Keep us posted how things are progressing.

Bad news. However my S was "topped & tailed" about 10 years ago, but you would have to look very hard to see the join and it is does get rid of those chips.

Bonnet off, repair to grazes, cracks etc., respray bonnet, front wings and N/S A-pillar, renew hinge assembly, refit bonnet.

They reckoned about 2 weeks to do the job if they could get the parts easily, and the insurance company reckoned about 1 week for inspection/approval, so I'm rounding that up to about 4 weeks.... that's 4 weeks in a diesel Astra estate! (no offence to diesel Astra estate drivers - it just doesn't compare to an S, and the turbo lag is terrible! )

Thanks for the well-wishes guys.

I do try and remind myself of the great fuel economy every time I get in the car. Mind you, it was also handy for the fridge that I took to the dump today - that would have been a bit of a squeeze in the S!

Finally got my baby back on Friday afternoon, and she looks fine. Completely stone-chip free bonnet and mirrors, properly aligned bonnet and new driving (as opposed to fog) lights - lovely! Also a perfect colour match.

Went out for a spin into Farnham in the evening and then on to the Barley Mow in Tilford. It was great to be exposed to the elements again after 4 weeks stuck in a metal box!

Hope it all works out Richard. Bet you are glad you don't have to pay!!

Four weeks to the birth of your new baby - are the repairers happy for you to pay a little extra and get it stone guarded ?? I would really consider it, especially if your front end is going to be the dogs when its done - Maybe worth asking

Keep your chin up - the time will soon pass.

Hi Ren,

I'm guessing that you maybe didn't read all the way to the end of the topic?! Still, I appreciate the sentinments, in retrospect.

The four weeks did drag a bit, but the results were worth the wait.
