Fuel filter replacement

Hi,

I want to change my S3 fuel filter without draining the tank. The tank is nearly empty so the fuel filter is higher than the fuel level in the tank. Do I need to clamp the pipes either side of the filter or can I just take it off with a bucket underneath to catch any fuel spillage.
