I've had a few before, but never owned a Turbo. My dad has one (although he hasn't used it in 2 years!)

I'm after a fun, cheap to run weekend toy. After initially looking at a Tuscan, Boxster S, Z4M, this seems much cheaper to buy, run and I know them inside out so I can do all the techy bits myself. I've previously rebuilt 4 accident damaged VX220's so have know them from the ground up!

What do you think? Could this be the ideal answer? Is there something better out there for me? I feel like I'd want something different from the norm, which this is, but then I've had a few before so it's not different to me!! It would certainly be very different from the daily driver though - Octavia VRS.

Interested to hear your thoughts.

I also like this: http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3060762.htm but there are good non cat cars out there now for similar money, so seems silly just because I like the seats!

I know the owner of the first car & he is quite festidious about his cars.

He has had TVR's before & tried an EVO and then the VX but I think he is missing the exhaust ears of a Tiv thumbup

I don't think the car has ever been out in the rain & I know he always allows the engine time to warm up/cool down before stopping it....probably a trait from his Cerb/T350 days....which is good because it means the turbo gets full oil supply before driving/stopping.

A steal at that price smokin

Thanks, it does look nice and it's got the mods I'd want. It's a tad over my budget (without selling my Skoda) but not far off. I need some time to look at insurance costs on it, whilst running my Skoda as well. As I understand it, I can only use my NCB on one car? Currently my Skoda??

A number of insurers will match NCB if you insure several cars with them. May also be worth looking into a multi car policy, I use Bridle on 02380 242530. Good luck smile

i work on these and i am a vx specialist( factory), they are good fun but become very unstable at high speed and are not put together very well , the parts are grossly over priced just my 2p worth;)

I ran a silver Turbo, HK35 FVB with a red/black interior for two years and seventeen thousand miles. In that time it had 10k worth of warranty claims!

Great car but poorly built. Moved to and Exige afterwards which was much better. Lots of parts aren't available now, another reason why they get written off for small shunts, things like headlights are very expensive now.

Don't regret it one bit tho!

Oh yes, I know how they're put together. I've rebuilt 4 from the chassis up! I also know the price of parts all too well. After finishing the rebuilt on my green one, a work colleague dropped a boat engine on the front of it, crushing it, only 2 days after I got it on the road. That was a £3,000 bill just for the front clam and paint! I also know what they're like to drive, although I haven't driven one for a few years now. Just not sure if it suits me completely. Could also get a mk2 Elise for this sort of money.

Elise always has and will have better residuals, just because of the badge over the Vauxhall.

Well, my VXR220 was as solid as a rock at high speed so I don't know what you've been driving!! Also, I though the parts were OK price wise (compared with what I have now, LOL!).

Nice car. I wouldn't mind owning one. Only thing is, it wouldn't take me long to get pissed off with having to crawl in and out of it and probably being uncomfortable for most of it.

the vxr 220 has some differance's least of all wider front tyres and yokahama tyres and is the best of all 3 but its still glued together and built up with self tappers sticky tape and cable ties also the parts are over priced £700 for a headlight is not cheap £120 for pads etc...

I think they are cheap to run. Had it 7 years!

Yes the clams are expensive so are the lights but only a problem if you crash it.

I am the owner of the VX220 Turbo in question and it is now unexpectedly available again.

I say unexpectedly, because although i was not 100% convinced by my "buyer", he agreed a price, claimed to have sent me a deposit by bacs, and was due to come and collect next sunday. Then got a text today to say he couldnt buy my car because he was being made redundant.

mad

So if anyone is still tempted then please get in touch smile
