Don't do things when your tired!
Discussion
Well, working nights this week so finishing at 0700 and then heading home for bed.
Today I decided that it would be a good idea to fit that handsfree kit that's been sat in my kitchen since the weekend. Ordered and received the SOT lead so all good. Popped out the headunit (easiest I have ever removed!) and set to fitting the wiring. After seeing how much extra wiring there was, what with the module box, SOT lead, original radio wires and interface box for the handsfree I wondered where it would all go. BUT!... Most of it fits behind the headunit nicely, can I find somewhere to fit the module box? Nope! Being tired didn't help and the light was fading, it has been in 3 or 4 different places now and I can't refit the trim panels with it located, the last place I can think of is under the glovebox so going to give that a go tomorrow, it's just annoying that although it is in and running I can't use the car tonight (It's nice going out at 2230 in these damp nights) and have a messy, unfinished car to play with tomorrow - Plus I have to get the bike MOT'd and get the oh's car through it's MOT (ABS sensor) before the 10 day return is up.
I currently have the car sat on the driveway, battery flat (from leaving the radio on and fiddling with the handsfree kit) and my passenger footwell filed with trim panels and screwdrivers/screws.
Lesson learnt, leave it till the rest days!

What handsfree kit are you fitting?
I fitted a Parrot MKi9200 to my e39 530i - I followed this guide on BMW5, everything fitted relatively easily
I put the iPod/USB/3.5mm Jack wires to the glovebox though, like so:

Relevant photos (I've rehosted them, so you should be able to see them)

That is what you should see behind the glovebox - the green line highlights where Ray (who took the photo) put his Parrot control box. I did much the same. This shows it from the footwell, looking upwards (i.e. the space behind the glovebox:

Then the panel next to it was where I hid the SOT lead and the Parrot kit connectors

which will then look like this when you've connected all the wires together and tucked everything back:

Once you've done that, you are most of the way there. Install the USB/iPod/3.5mm leads to a location of your choosing and refit the panels and you are pretty much done
Mine looked like this when finished:

but I subsequently moved the display to where Ray put his as I found the double sided tape didn't like sticking to the dashtop.
N.B. All credit to Raymond on BMW5 for the images - he had the patience to take photos whilst he was installing it, I didn't

I'm guessing you've pulled out the plastic trim under the glovebox? If not, you need to pull that out - it simply slides out.
Then there are the retention straps and damper, you need to unclip them:

Once you've done that the glovebox should be able to drop further than before. Check underneath the back of the glovebox and you should see two bolts:

Loosen them off, then pull the glovebox towards you - it should come off in your hands. If not, you've missed one of the fixings or you need to loosen the two bolts further.
