Six Vehicle Accident This Evening on the A31 R'wood flyover
Discussion
Anyone know the story?
Tried to get out of ringwood via this flyover this evening and there were cars facing various directions.
Plus, on the return, road practically empty heading towards the flyover, only to be met just round the bend with no warning that the road was still closed and cones and signs directing traffic via the exit for Ringwood.
Another accident waiting to happen.

i was heading to moors valley around 6, 5 police cars went through us, then all of a sudden there is no traffic heading towards southampton.
got to flyover and it looked really bad, firemen holding up sheets but i saw police/ambulance people working on what looked like 2 people, not good.
came out of moors valley at around 8, road closed, diverted onto roundabout, all the cars involved where still there, looked like it was going to be shut for ages

Not good, makes me feel bad about moaning how long it took to get home last night.
However it really is a messed up piece of road. How there's not more accidents is beyond me.
Proposed 50 limit from Burley to St Leonards in the offing. There are a lot of junctions onto that section and all of the slip roads are too short. See loads of accidents. I'm not a fan of these limits but the lack of common sense people seem to apply means they have to be told what they can and can't do. Way of life now I guess. However it really is a messed up piece of road. How there's not more accidents is beyond me.

Quite agree. The slips are too short & mostly blind particularly going west. The other problem is the amount of traffic that needs to cross the slips. That 2nd ringwood junction near the Fish is a nightmare, traffic coming from Ringwood trying to get on the A31, traffic on the A31 trying to get in The Fish, 50yds further traffic crosses the slip again getting into the garage. At the same time traffic coming onto the slip then the A31 from the pub & garage. 50 yds further on from the garage and repeat!! Numpties not looking ahead or in their mirrors or not leaving a gap - simple as. I use this route frequently, if your on the A31 plan ahead, leave a gap, move to outside lane if possible. If on the slip give way & aim for a gap. Near misses are usually caused by those who stop at the end of the slip. Seen it many many times.
Would be great spot for my instant licence removal & numpty driver filtration process, you get issued a bus pass for life if you get caught.

Its about time the limits were sorted around the junctions and lets hope this will see it enforced.
As said, Burly to St Leonards at 50.
I HATE all these speed reductions everywhere but this is one place that certainly needs it.
That flyover can also easily catch you out if you are unfamiliar with the road.
I can quite happily cruise over it on both directions at 70, but the amount of people i see wondering across the lanes as i approach is worrying to say the least.

Agreed. The westbound section is plain scary given the volume of traffic and the poor standards of driving. As said, Burly to St Leonards at 50.

I get in the right hand lane going down Paulsdown hill and stay there until I've passed the Southbound 338. Too many idiots trying to merge with no gap compounded by too many idiots trying to close the gaps to stop people merging.
I'm not sure a 50 limit would help though, drive slower = drive closer.

Saw the westbound still queuing at 830 last night up at the Burley junction while out biking.
