So a long time ago I was supposed to arrange a nice Sunday lunch for two for tomorrow. And I forgot.

Criteria are it being a pub, somewhere near Portsmouth, west and/or north ideally, and I would hope out in leafy countryside or at least somewhere away from the grim city. I thought towards Wickham or one of the Meons perhaps.

Please bail me out with your recommendations! biggrin

Hare and Hounds at Stoughton, decent food and beer and lovely countryside (South Downs). Can get busy but it's supposed to be raining tomorrow so might keep the crowds away.

Seven Stars @ Stroud near Petersfield on A272, no booking, await a table, do a fantastic roast with a good varied menu. Go for a blast along the 272 afterwards.

One of my favourite pubs this. Go there up/down a34 and a272 for a pleasant drive.

Trashbat, you of AO parish?

Of course I am!

Tried The Hurdles at Droxford but no tables - looked classy though. Ended up at The Shoe Inn, Exton - and enjoyed an excellent roast beef with a Yorkshire pudding the size of a workable hat. Recommended.

I did wonder if you'd get a table at The Hurdles. The Shoe would have been my second choice. Glad it was good.

We've been to the shoe in the summer, and sat by the stream across from the pub.
