Long time no see south coasters! Kit car still not road ready (flippin kids) so promised the wife I'd sell it this year provided we got rid of the mazda6 (zzzzzzzz) and got something a bit more wafty and with a bit more oomph. Hence the shiny (Not new unfortunately)BMW 530D on the drive. However, its not had the swirlflaps done. I could do it myself, but as the car has a FSH I'd rather get someone else to do it - plus it'll take them 1/4 time it will probably take me, and I'll have some sort of comeback if they break anything while doing it. Happy to order the blanks.

Any recommendations? We are near Petersfield but the car is in Portsmouth most days so that would be more ideal as it is the only car moving at the mo.

Cheers all!

I've used Brystone for years with everything from 3 series, 5 series diesel to the M5 and found them to be awsome. Even when the M5 was in Warranty, take it to the dealers, they have it for 3 days can;t figure out what was wrong, quote me £10k for repairs. I then take it to Brystones, 2 hours later problem identified back to Scothalls for warranty work! Good guys would reccomend them

APM Motors?? I dont know them but they advertise on the radio a fair bit. I will be making the short trip to Brystone when mine is out of warranty though.

Yes mate - still alive! Been a bit of a dodgy time at work, the Landy needs to get off the drive for as near to £500 as I can get, and the Kit car has to go to pay for the 530d frown

Flippin kids!

If you are about at easter ping me a date so we can catch up over that dinner and find how you are both getting on at work. Hows the Defender?

Thanks to all for recomendations so far smile

Anyone had theirs mapped? Did you get a better MPG?

I'm still wondering what a 'deflap' is? Is it a dirty diesel thing?

Swirlflaps in the manifold can let go of their screws and bits - not good when meeting the pistons coming up! Easy fix and I have got the replacement covers but want some paperwork when its done... Will get the car looked over too - all seems fine but I've an untrained eye... Drives very nicely, and bloody hell its quick for a big wafty car!

Is it really that much of a problem though? Surely BMW put them there for a good reason. My previous diesel BM never blew up and this one seems fine as well. Is it something that BMW themselves offer?

They changed the design after 2007 because of it. Bimmer forums are full of incidents of it. BMW wont replace an engine if they go as they deem it a wearable part etc, so for the sake of a few quid it seems worth it. I don't have £12k for a new engine!
