Hi all,

Please could you suggest some nice restaurants in Harrogate and the surrounding villages for a Saturday night for a couple.

It tends to be our favourite area around where we are based and I hope one of you could let me know of some restaurants I haven't yet tried.

Many thanks

Blimey, there are loads. If you already know the area then let me know which places you like to a) avoid duplication and b) to get an idea what type of places you like.

At a first stab: Hotel du Vin, Tanning Level, Archie's, Van Zeller, Quantro, Tiger Inn, Rose & Crown at Roecliffe, Yorke Arms at Ramsgill, Le Bistrot Pierre... I could go on, there are loads... Oh , Clock Tower at Rudding Park, Malt Shovel at Brearton (superb).

Royal Oak at Staveley is awesome, a really good friend of mine has it and has a great menu.

If you are over Ripon way, one of my favourites in the area was Lockwoods.

Personal favourite is the Thai Pavilion. It's near to the "trendier" Sukhothai but is nicer.

I would second the Malt Shovel. It's got a so natural feel to it, feels special without even trying. The last time I ate there it was one of the few times a meal has actually left an impact on me.

Another vote for Brio's in the Town. When I went there last I had the best italian meal I've ever had. Highly rate the place.

Sasso's for Italian (much better than Brio's IMHO), Van Zeller for Modern British, The Orchid for everything else... Awesome! General Tarleton if heading out toward Knaresborough. Crab & Lobster is consistently great food, if heading toward Thirsk (Asenby).

Don't know about harrogate but here are some of my favs from the surrounding area.

Box tree ilkley.
Crab and Lobster.
Yorke Arms pately bridge,
Clock tower follifoot.
Spice 4 U in wetherby, best curry house this side of Bradford.
If your willing to take a 30 min drive you can head to the Black swan out by Oldstead. Its the best place in Yorkshire.

I'd second that, lovely place, I've never had a bad meal there.

Also, the Crown at Roecliffe (not the Rose and Crown as someone posted) and General Tarleton are always good and use a lot of seasonal stuff so the game is worth going for at the right times of year.
