I'm visiting Stonehaven for the Fireballs on New Years Eve. I'm taking a motorhome and was hoping somebody could advise me on where I could park for the night. There doesn't seem to be anywhere official that I could park for the night.
If anybody had any suggestions I would be grateful. Thanks.

Hello - I'll text CT to let him know about this thread and he'll answer your question as best he can (he's a bit busy just now so it might not be an instant answer).

I hope you have a great time when you come up, you're made to feel really welcome and you come back again.

Cheers,

Eric smile

The caravan site is closed at the moment, however I do see motor homes occasionally parked up overnight on the road between Stonehaven and Cowie, though I don't think it is encouraged.

I spoke with the local council. They gave me the number for the caravan site however we didn't get an answer which fits in with it being closed. I believe it has been purchased from the council. The council told me to drive up to Aberdeen and park there after the festival finishes. frown

Just find somewhere (within reason!) that you fancy and kip there for the night.

It's only for one night, so I can't see you getting any hassle, especially if you choose a sensible location.

Contacting the council was probably a bad idea, because the effective audit trail of communication removes the aforementioned option.

There is a co-op supermarket in the town, could be worth asking permission to park up there overnight, I have heard of supermarkets allowing this on the basis you would be shopping there.
Also a car park at a Kirkton garden centre which you might get away with.

Sorry not a lot of help but I will keep thinking.

The swimming pool has a huge car park - don't imagine there will be too many problems if you're only there for the night? Police will likely be too busy with drunks on Hogmanay to care about one camper van?

Probably right, but behind the pool on the road to Cowie might attract less attention
