t, is this for real,someone please get in touch with Grampian Police so they can put a stop to this immediately and no doubt full resources will be applied to this most heinous of crimes,one can only hope the perpetrators are caught and locked up along with, sorry this is where it all goes wrong,all the paedos,car thieves and scum get off with "community service" and the motorist who dares to do anything wrong is instantly vilified and sentenced to a lifetime in hell and damnation

What the hell is "overtaking in an anti social way"?
Is that part of the RTA? Is it a new law we all missed?
I travelled to Edinburgh and back yesterday on the M8 and you will find no better example of anti social muppets, none of whom were driving 911s, and all seriously flaunting the newly promoted principles of observing lane discipline and eliminating tailgating.
Oh, and not one traffic car in sight.

You are commenting on the words of a journalist who works for a newspaper not famed for its accuracy.Is that part of the RTA? Is it a new law we all missed?
You musn't confuse this with a verbatim quote from something a Police Scotland spokesperson has said.
Regardless, what I believe has happened is that a member of the public has seen these cars on the A944, taken exception to some aspect of their driving and made a complaint.
That's all.
Having received a complaint from a member of the public, Police Scotland are obliged to investigate.
As part of that investigation, Police Scotland have decided to appeal for witnesses via the local media.
The EE reporter has then decided to "ginger up" the story a bit.
Now, my take is that if they were driving irresponsibly or in a manner which might be expected to alarm a member of the public then they deserve to have their collars felt ... and I hope they do.
More likely, the person making the complaint was just having a bad day or something.
Either way, we'll never know and typing this reply has wasted five minutes of my life which I won't get back.
Utterly utterly pointless.
i was pulled in the weekend for having 2 letters too close together on my number plate. nothing dodgy or silly, i just missed out the space in the middle.
No strange font, silly size or funny colouring. it just missed a space. when asked if their machine had trouble picking up the number i was told "No".
There was no issue, it wasn't harming or offending anyone. i was stuck in traffic when they pulled me over.
They even had the time to have a chat about the car and ask plenty of questions that were not related to their job.
The end result was a warning and i have to get a piece of paper signed by an MOT tester (who never even checked to see if the plates were legal, i should have just left the old ones on)
It's good to see that the police have their priorities straight and that evil criminals, such as myself, don't get away with our heinous crimes

Interesting that they bothered to stop you. I got a call on my mobile one day from an officer at Queen St who had seen my car on Union St earlier that day. He asked me politely to remove my number plates with incorrect spacing and replace them with the correctly spaced versions. How the hell he had my mobile number I do not know but I did what they asked and that was that. What is odd is that I got that number plate in 2005 and had run it spaced the way he objected to from then until 2012 across a range of cars. Surely, had there not been a real focus on these minor plate indiscretions, I would have been able to continue running the plates in the manner I had been for the previous number of years?? There must have been a change to the policing focus and as we all wear easy identifiers on our cars it's very simple to get a collar. I was particularly annoyed as that week some scrotes were caught in the act trying to steal parts from my Subaru but were never caught, yet the police have the ability to ready my numberplate, punch it into the system and get my personal mobile phone number and call me on it to ask me to change my plates?! Something not quite right there in my opinion.

^ The problem is the UK Government has done such a good job of scaremongering joe public, that it's actually the overtaking itself that's now considered anti-social, no matter how safe & legal the move is actually is...I got wildly flashed & fists shaken in my direction whilst overtaking a car on A68 last month, this despite me being back on my side of the road for something like 5-10 seconds before the oncoming car was even near me. Also this was a clear, straight section, on a dry sunny day with about 1-2 miles of visibilty ahead, and the car I overtook had actually slowed down ~5mph and moved slightly left to allow me to make the move. Weird!
