Aberdeen Airport Evacuated - Thursday
Discussion
I got caught up in the evacuation yesterday, didn't hear what the problem was or if it was a false alarm. I looked on the P&J website but not even a mention of it.
Anyone know what happened ??
It was a PITA for me I was almost at passport control when the alarm went off and we all had to go outside, after travelling for 14hrs I just wanted to get home.
The organisation could have been better, they mixed the outbound and inbound passengers so everyone had to re-enter through passport control, the outbound people then had to pass through security again to get airside.
Still, could have been worse, it could have been raining.

Seriously though the organisation was pretty dreadful; mixing up inbound, outbound and folk still halfway through security was never going to be easy to sort out. Staff were giving mixed messages and on a couple of occasions were downright rude. My flight was due to go so they plucked us from the queue to fast track us through, walked us up the queue to immigration before finding the chap I was stood with didn't have a passport or ID because security hadn't let him have his bag off the conveyor when the bells rang. This bamboozled the lady helping us so she wandered off to sort it out. Never saw her again. Two minutes later a different member of staff said there was no 'fast tracking' as everyone was in the same boat and just be patient. Patronising cow. The fact they were still doing random explosive swabbing and spot check pat downs whilst the security belts swelled to three times the normal capacity was just mind bogglingly stupid. Surely security must have enough authority to suspend the additional checks for half an hour until the dozen flashing "gate closing" signs had left the board...
Interestingly I got speaking to a woman who claimed her friend worked for the airport. Apparently the black smoke was from the fire training ground - her story goes that because it was a false alarm, the firemen light up a straw fire in the brazier to create smoke and give the throng something to look at / coo at/ take pictures of. Stops folk getting stroppy about being inconvenienced. Whether that is true or not, it's certainly plausible and sounds more likely than a totally coincidental simultaneous fire at the training ground as reported in the press... Or maybe I just have my tinfoil hat on
