Has anyone seen the below?

Car friends take note.

Due to the introduction of the single police force in April 2013 changes are being made to penalise motorists yet again.

All £30 non-endorsable fines will increase to £50
All £60 non-endorsable penalties will increase to £100 as fr 00:01hrs on 16th August 2013. Included in this will be not displaying a tax disc, no MOT, VEL plate offence, seatbelt n children not restraint.

Now for the sickening part

No insurance up fr £200 to £300
Failure to supply details up fr £120 to £200
Tyres less than 1mm up fr £120 to to £200

new careless/inconsiderate driving attracts a £100 fine along wi 3pp.

Hammering down hard again on easy targets. Be careful.

I find it ridiculous that no insurance only incurs a £200-£300 fine.

Why should I pay out lots of hard earned, when some scroat can get away with a reasonably paltry fine which probably ends up cheaper than the actual premium would be?

In fairness, it's quite easy to avoid these costs (at the old or new level). smile

I think it is a UK wide chage

Most of it I agree with as they are all fines for stupidity ie chatting on mobile, no seatbelt, bad driving, no insurance, lane hoggers etc

Personally I'd bump no insurance way up beyond £300 fine Paid sons first car insurance last night and with exception of one amazing quote from Tesco £1100(with black box fitted) all others were in £1700 upwards I can see why someone may be tempted to not bother and take risk

Bald tyres - make fine way more than cost of tyre

I was £2,500 when I was 17 and had a 1.2 fiat punto. My insurance has finally dropped this year after turning 25. It's scary!

I don't have a problem with any of the changes.

It really is not that difficult to insure, tax and run a car in a safe condition. Mobile phone use (and texting) seems to be endemic at the moment, and given the chances of getting caught are fairly slim they really ought to increase the penalty to act as more of a deterrent (6 points would be a start).

The sting with no insurance is the points. 6 points only gives you six to play with . And from stories ,it seems that insurance companies don't like drivers who've been done for no insurance . But some never learn.i've got one suspected drug dealer close by who's sold last car after a siezure for no tax or insurance and got another. It sits on the road and goes for short runs when my info is that it is also sans insurance .

To be honest, that sounds completely fair. I think driving with tyres below 1mm should be penalised as much as possible, especially in a country as wet as Scotland

inconsiderate driving

This is a driving offence now?? wow.. so if I don't let that guy out of a junction or that buss out that's about to take the side off my car that's a £100 fine and 3 points, interesting lol... How on earth do you qualify inconsiderate driving, I'm guessing it's aimed at middle lane hoggers and tailgaters buy it's a very loose term so can basically be applied to anything they want to say you did or didn't do? frown

Yeah, the fines have gone up, but the points are definitely still the killer. No insurance = 6 points... Get that twice and then see how much bother you are in... Will end up costing you alot more in the long run than the small fine.

So I will be keeping my car insured as I always do..! Stupid not to! Unless it's on the back of a trailer smile

I am sure that you would think 6 points wasn't enough if an uninsured driver hit you wrote off your car (and perhaps injured your family).

Worth noting that the classic £60/3pts for the heinous, abominable crime of Speeding has crept up to £100 as well - it's been well buried in most of the news reports.

For me, it would certainly alter the balance of the (financial) risk vs. reward consideration when pressing on a bit.
