A832 - Garve to Achnasheen

I was out with a group of friends on the bikes at the weekend and one of us was done by an unmarked black Volvo estate on the A832 heading towards Achnasheen from Garve. They were parked up in a layby about 5 or so miles east of Achnasheen.
They were going to head on towards Strathcarron too but turned tail and went after a group of Porsche's and an Aston Martin amongst others that were heading for Garve. Hope it was nobody on here.
We all know the risks but wide open, fast flowing dry roads with as good as no traffic and perfect visibility just seems easy pickings for not a lot of effort.
Anyways, if you are up there watch out.

that volvo has been about Inverness for a while now. A few mates and myself were on a run out that road on the bikes when we came up behind that volvo, it pulled in at a lay by on a big straight and watched us as we passed and went round the next behind.
we knew it was the police so kept it country until we were out of view and then carried on at our usual pace although I was half expecting them to come tearing round the corner after us in the hope of catching us out.

I know someone who was done at the same point (Achanault) last year. Road was empty and was charged with dangerous driving! Got a 4 month ban. I'd be interest to know the accident stats for this road, and why they police this road in preference to other busier roads in the name of "safety".

Like the A9? There has been a lot of debate recently about it. How often do you see mobile police patrols on it? Far easier to park up and bag speeders than to go on the road and nick the dangerous overtakers/tailgaters, etc.

I was stopped for speeding by an unmarked Volvo estate sitting in what I think was the same layby about 6 or 7 years ago. Sunday morning, perfect visibility, hardly a car on the road and not a house within a mile or so of where I was stopped. I noticed the car as I passed the layby as it was parked closest to the road and not the Loch on the other side, and it appeared to be empty. I saw it in my rear view mirror gaining at great speed about half a mile further on and then sitting right behind me (perhaps expecting me to speed up?). I was already indicating to pull over into a safe place as they put the blue lights on, as I knew what was coming. It was a fair cop, as I had allowed my speed to creep up to high 70s after massing a marked car a few miles earlier along the road. Chatting to the police officers as they wrote out my fixed penalty ticket, it transpired that they often caught football fans running late to get to a game (Caley Thisle were playing at Aberdeen that day).
I got clocked at 92mph from that same lay by over the summer, ended up getting 4 points and a £280 fine (benefit of being a relatively poor student!) from the court in Dingwall.
It must be one of the safest overtaking spots in the country; the guy who pulled me over admitted as much and that my general standard of driving was excellent - thought I was getting away with it until he showed me the gun!

Had a quick google for accident stats and I couldn't really find much - this map doesn't suggest any particular danger though. Seems like it's just guaranteed easy pickings.

Think the phrase "shooting fish in a barrel" would be appropriate, there is probably not many roads anywhere in the UK that are more suitable for "pushing the envelope" Wide open, good surface, miles of view, raised up in a lot of parts, very few if any junctions, dare say if they are short of headline stats they will head out there and get a few at high digits? I believe there was a biker killed over there a while ago so this is maybe the "excuse" for enforcement?
