Just being nosey ,

I pass the Arnold Clark branches on Prestwick Rd in Ayr daily and i see they have given up the Honda franchise at the large dealership.
So me being curious is wondering what's coming in next to the site ? Anyone know?As its a prime site i dont see Arnold giving it up.

Honda Ayr went to Parks Motor Group - it is located where the old County Saab used to be.

I haven't heard anything since but will keep ears and eyes open.

Thanks Adam, I had noticed that parks had taken on Honda at Doonfoot.

Going by the amount of dealers in the area, there can't be many marques left to choose from.
My bet - I believe Arnold now owns Fairbairns BMW / MINI at Irvine, no BMW / MINI in Ayr, premium site available.......

The Honda AC in Kilmarnock has just been replaced with a performance and prestige center , looks to be mainly full of Honda jazz when I last drove past hehe

Sounds like AC has fallen out with Honda then?

Still be interesting to see what they move into the sites, both Ayr & Kilmarnock are big sites to fill. I'm sure old Arnold will have something up his sleeve.

What other dealership groups are there in Scotland these days? Seems that AC is almost taking over?

Arnold is certainly biggest, then you have Parks who are also pretty big. Evans Halshaw (sp?) Seems to have quite a few on the go these days as well. After that I think you are looking at independents who may have 3 or 4 dealerships.

Macklin Motors as well. Based in northeast England, I believe, have bought over most of the Shields sites around Glasgow and Lanarkshire.

Lookers own Taggarts and Lomond now.

Shields kept the LR site on Kennishead Rd however have just sold that out to Lookers, so it'll no doubt be rebranded Taggarts in the near future.

The LR place has already been rebranded as a Taggarts, happened a month or two ago. Macklin Motors (Vertu aka Bristol St in the south) took over the Ford and Mazda place in Darnley (and Hamilton) and built the Nissan garage, but the old Toyota place has been empty for a while and is up for sale still.

Having had a no of Hondas over the years I thought I would nip in and see what they had on offer..

Price list? Nope.

Brochures? Nope.

Awareness of future products (6 Seater and Type R specifically?) Nope.

They will certainly need to up their game.

A bit Ironic given that yonks ago this was the old Doonfoot Honda if anyone remembers...

I remember when Honda was at Doonfoot road years ago, although I thought with the demise of Saab the Parks place on Doonfoot road was now a Suzuki dealership unless that's now being binned after only a couple of years for Honda.

I'm told Parks are building a Honda dealership in Irvine at the multi franchise site off the Newmoor roundabout which is interesting given Honda were always known to only have their franchise at any dealers and didn't share sites with any other manufacturer.

The reason the ex Shields Toyota sites are still empty is because AC bought Shields' Toyota franchise from them about 2 years ago but not the premises, they moved the Darnley franchise to Mount Vernon and the Hamilton one to the Motorstore in EK.

I believe that as part of the deal for Lookers to buy Shields Land Rover they also bought all the property Shields owned including the ex Toyota showrooms and the Ford/Mazda premises which were only leased to Macklin/Bristol Street/Vertu by Shields.

On the subject of AC dropping Honda in Ayr/Killie, it was only a matter of time IMO, about 3 years ago they gave up their leased Honda sites in Manchester/Stockport and changed their Altrincham Honda site to Kia, and have also now changed Kirkcaldy Honda to Kia, so could Ayr/Killie be about to become Kia too?

Thought I'd post a wee update on this incase anyone's interested, it seems Arnie has bought Kerr and Smith Vauxhall a wee bit further along Prestwick road from their now ex Honda dealership and have put the Vauxhall franchise in there as its a bigger site.

It's again quite strange because the ex Honda site used to be a Vauxhall dealership called Rosefield Motors years ago before going bust, Arnie bought the site and put Honda in.

Heard the same that AC has bought Kerr & Smith.

Kerr & Smith's Vauxhall dealer was on the site of Bass Rock.. I remember my brothers buying a maroon Orion from there used in about 1996!

I don't deal with AC as I don't like their way of working/selling to you. I do live in hope that Border Cars and Bridgend Group are making inroads into the car sales industry in Ayrshire.

Border Cars has Chevy / Mazda / Mitsubishi in Ayr and Bridgend are mostly used cars as far as I know and was interested to see they have bought he ex Bickets/Verve sites on Campbell Street in Kilmarnock.

I also heard AC have sold the Galloway Ave site in Ayr for development, so possibly Fiat dealership is moving in elsewhere??
