Basically drivers are stupid, don't bother reading the bus lane times.
I approach the BOD from town side during the day, on approach to the roundabout, one or two parked in the bus lane (outwith of operation), I pass the last parked car and drive in the bus lane to the roundabout, nobody else gets in that lane until the end of the markings for a bus lane.
Same in Union Street, no worries, makes driving easier for me.

Yeah he means in the evening as the road begins to slow. Most drivers will match the speed of the single carriageway traffic ahead in an attempt to keep moving until someone decides he can maintain 80mph for 400 yards more by passing them all and "merging" in at the end which turns the slower line of traffic in to near-stationary queue.

When I worked up town I used to leave the house in the mornings at 0630 for the same reason. My biggest bug bear is coming down Anderson Drive, approaching the roundabout at the BOD, you enter the roundabout to cross over thr river and the ped lights are red, no worries, stop on the roundabout and let traffic out from your left, buses trucks cars, but there is always one behind you tooting you, not that you can go anywhere, and the other morons who just block the roundabout whilst the lights are red.I struggle to tolerate pretty much everyone on the roads so come in very early and go home early to avoid all this or I'd end up in a fight every week.
That's not limited to Aberdeen, same in Edinburgh. They just don't read the signs or legislation governing part time bus lanes!
Silly people sitting like lemmings waiting for they turn. i hope they continue to do as i can scoot along the bus lane and get to my destination that bit quicker!

Just for your info guys, I queried the bus signs at crossroads which prohibited cars going straight over. I queried this with the Grampian police, they said that sign is in operation 24/7, which made no sense at all, which meant outwith bus times, you could approach the junction in the left hand lane, then have move back to L2 to cross the junction, then you could go back into the bus lane.

80% upwards of people don't know how to use a bus lane. I'm not a big fan of undertaking but when there's a quarter-mile queue in the outside lane and nothing in the bus lane in Edinburgh with most of the queue wanting to be in the left lane after it ceases to be a bus lane, I'll (very carefully) take the risk and save myself 10 minutes when the bus lane is inactive. It boggles the mind how people don't get it with all the signage and times readily on display.

Absolutely right, probably same in most cities. Just shows how much they understand the HC, Plonkers.Like you, I mosey down the lane slowly just in case someone suddenly remembers its not a bus lane.
I've noticed the same on the bus lane at Woodend/Hazlehead coming in from Westhill. The one from the Crem to Groat's road.
Often, when they're inactive, the cars go down the outside lane and cut back in at the end of the bus lane as the outside lane is for turning right.
I drive buses, but it's strange how they won't use the lane when it's inactive then cut back in in front of me!
Driving home yesterday along King Street traffic was queued up on the outside lane from the lights at the bridge to the Seaton lights, I went right up the bus lane and straight to the front of the lights, not one person using the inactive bus lane!

Resurrecting an old thread here so apologies guys.
Did anyone notice the two (presumably council traffic wardens) standing outside the AECC today? One guy had a camera and the other a notepad and was taking down the reg of each car in the bus lane. Just to put this into perspective this was pre bus lane operating times (circa 7:20am).
I slowed down as I passed and both gents looked less than happy I was in the bus lane and went out of their way to make it obvious that they were noting down my reg.
Clearly I’m aware, as were the other cars in the bus lane at the time that they were not in force yet but where do we stand if they trying sending out fines. How do we prove the timing gear they have is accurate? As a side note, I pulled over coming along the beach and took photo’s on my phone showing the date and time on the dash and then looking back at the Ellon road.

. Seriously a hand held digital camera can be set to any time, so unless it is one which can't be altered etc, can't see as they can say you were in the lane during operation, and taking notes WTF!Think I would have stopped and asked them what was going on.
Do tell if they are there tomorrow.
I usually use bus lanes out-of-hours if it suits but got caught out last month on Auchmill Road just before the Haudigan Roundabout. I forgot that particular bus lane is one of the few that are permanent bus lanes. The traffic in the other 2 lanes was backing right up with most cars in both lanes that I could see indicating right to head up Anderson Drive, so I moved left about 100 yards too early and went through the camera. £30 fine but a nice photo of the TVR. I find the King Street bus lanes most useful at around 0600 when I'm heading in to work as everyone stays out of them.
