Police Scotland crackdown
Discussion
Reading the unmarked cars thread has been making me paranoid of late, but perhaps the paranoia was justified. According to the Herald, in the first four months of Police Scotland's existence, the number of drivers caught speeding in the Edinburgh area alone increased from 350 to 1200 against the same period last year, following their "crackdown".

Quite how pulling those extra folk results in a "significant reduction in road deaths", as Police Scotland appear to claim, I don't know, but that appears to be the justification.

Oh dear. I take it that the cops were traffic? They have no discretion, however normal cops (like myself) try and act human. We all speed. Anyone who says they dont are lying. For me its all about time and place. Sadly the govt is placing completely unrealistic targets on police scotland. Andy

That is very true Andy. Unfortunately I can't put my opinions of working for Police Glasgow....... Sorry meant Police Scotland on an open forum. All I will say is I know why a lot of cops are looking elsewhere for jobs.GilesGuthrie said:
I saw two officers speed-gunning folk outside a school in Broomhouse (Edinburgh) at 08.40 a couple of days ago.
Now that's the kind of speed checking I can get behind.
And I don't think anyone in their right mind would object to that. It's the 'clear road, no obsctructions, road that really should be NSL only some jobsworth has decided it needs to be a 30 or a 40' or 'You were clocked at 55mph during that overtake, you're nicked'Now that's the kind of speed checking I can get behind.

So are you in a position to refute what he is saying and can you back this up?SWMBO is force and can verify that Police Scotland do now have targets for a number of offenses.
I have also seen a marked increase in speed traps around Fife and Perthshire, specifically roads going from NSL to 30 zones. This was just after House had set such targets. Too much of a coincidence.
If you are around Knockhill, slow to the limit through the villages.

Yup it is all targets. A close friend works for PS. He was recently told to put aside his enquiries( burglary, non-domestic abuse....) in order to "get 6 seatbelts". SWMBO is force and can verify that Police Scotland do now have targets for a number of offences.

bluejj, I think you may need to contribute slightly more than that to get anyone to believe you.
We are punters who drive cars who see police cracking down, not just traffic police but normal pandas.
Where I live there is now a Focus estate regularly parks up purely to try and pull people using the phone or no seatbelts. They were never there before.
