I was there too. I thought there was about 60-70 classic cars there rather than the 200 they said! I thought it was a bit steep charging £4 to park as well as the admission fee.
I went as I was thinking of organising a different event next year
Did the clubs have to pay to be there: What were the rules for the clubs? Arrival departure time etc
I noticed there were no trade stands at all at the event. Were there any in the past?
Not trying to be negative but I didnt think the event was that impressive as a car event. I t had planes etc, which is a great distraction and time filler but not much more.

I was there with my dad in his 500sl. Had I driven my Ferrari up from London I would have been very cheesed off.
The actual grounds and air craft element were fine but they could've easily packed 300 or 400 cars at it yet they limited it to 200 and I agree that I doubt there was even that at theshow.
It must not have been well advertised because I can't believe that There was only 2 Porsche cars there and both were 944's ! Where were all the lotus and tvr's etc?!

I can maybe give you one of the reasons for poor attendance I have been to that show on about 4 occasions with the Porsche Tipec club we always fielded a good number of cars and held our annual concourse show there. We have always had issues as to where we have been sighted one year next to a childrens fun fair Porsches and Kids not a good mix We got moved as you said loads of area to spread exhibitors around and one year next to Cycling course ,an other move .The last time due to poor weather and attendance by 3.30 it had gone quite not any activity in the arena etc and we decided to take down our gazebbo and pack up only to be told no one was getting out till 5 oclock and stewards where standing at the exits We decided at 4 to call it a day and went out on mass to find the gates locked and a row of exhibitors already waiting some one managed to unlock the gates and we all left .I realize joe public pay good money to see cars and if cars disappeared early they have nothing to see and feel cheated but no 4pm. The aircraft show hangers is interesting as well as Concorde exhibit but the area is so vast they could put more thinks on ,but to lock people in is a no no so this years we decide to give it a miss as only two members showed any interest and also it is 180 mile round trip for us Weegies

This year was my third and by far the weakest. In the other years there was a better selection of cars and MANY more than we saw this year.
I suspect that the introduction of an internal NMS panel deciding who would be allowed to exhibit put some clubs off and as they didn't give us successful ones an awful lot of notice that we had been "successful" in getting a place, with at least three other motoring events in Scotland that day it is likely that many decided to take their cars elsewhere.
On a separate note, I got a telling-off last year for lighting a small disposable BBQ and made to put it out in case it set off the smoke detectors in the hangars. Strangely, no one was very bothered abut the White Helmets burning straw and diesel, even though their smoke blew straight towards Concorde!

I'll try & answer Paul's questions first. We didn't have to pay for our club stand, something we frown on anyway as without the exhibits there'd be no show. The rules were strict in fact a page full of do's & don'ts, most related to health & safety. We had to be set up by 10am & not leave before 5pm. This is fair enough because if people are paying to see something they shouldn't be let down by exhibitors leaving early. We stick to these rules but we've been to shows where some have left if there's a few spots of rain, pointless as once the cars are wet what's to be gained by going home? Having said that we did notice several vehicles leaving earlier than 5pm & without any escort through the public. We had to be 'approved' by a panel before we were allowed to attend the show, we also had to supply a copy of our club's Public Liability Insurance & get permission to put stakes into the ground to secure our gazebo & flag poles etc.
As far as costs are concerned we've no idea how much it takes to put on a show, I expect there'd be charges for the air shows & the motorcycle stunt team etc, were staff volunteers or paid for the day? However when we learnt that visitors were having to pay £4 to park their cars on top of the £10 entrance fee we thought that was over the top, you get lot's to see at the museum but the entrance fee alone wasn't exactly cheap, especially if you brought the kids along, although the 'family ticket' was around £28 I believe, still not a cheap day.

I'm really glad that those who attended, enjoyed it. You'll have noticed a distinct lack of BMWs there. The reason we didn't go was that when making the arrangements to go, BMWCC Scotland were informed that applications could be made but NMS would decide which cars could be put on show and would be restricted to 10.
When we informed them that we'd supported this event from its inception and that our members were prepared to travel from all over Scotland and the north of England with cars they had spent days preparing to show standard (for them), we usually have in the order of 20 cars on our stand ranging from a 318 Coupe to a couple of M5s with loads of variations in between and that 10 was unreasonable. We were informed that we could apply for 20 spaces but that NMS would still choose which cars they would allow to be displayed and may still be restricted to 10.

I believe this was also one of the reasons the Porsche Tipec did not attend .It is crazy as the place can easily take many hundreds of cars all lined around the hangers and huts it is huge area .And if safety is an issue say no BBQ allowed of make an area dedicated where clubs can go and cook food if they wish surely not an issue ,As said the White Helmets set straw bails alight 2 years ago. I can see a lot of clubs striking it of the list .
