Mud Master 2013

Over the weekend, my mate Kevin and I took part in Mud Master off road competition, we entered into the standard class, so were agains't a few series landys, 1 FL1, 2 RRC's, a D2, some Jimnys, couple of Jeeps and some landcruisers.

It was a weekend of on road navigation, off road orienteering, time trials, RTV courses so plenty to push car skill, bravery and team work as Kevin was my navigator for the weekend.

We did 8 out of 9 RTV courses with 0 points, so a clear run for them. 1 course we got a 2 on, not sure how as i cleared it with no stops but ah well.
We missed a few markers in 2 of the orienteering courses but cleared one in the time frame allowed.
Got lost in both forest stages, which we tried to do in pitch darkness... But got out in the end.
I cleared both time trial routes under the times, 1st one i have a video for. 2nd one i don't.

This picture sums up the event, 1 "Shiny" vs loads of kitted out defenders, there were plenty more parked across the car park so that's only a small selection of them.




Anyway, the damage on the car is minor. Some paintwork scratches which i'll machine polish out soon.
The fuel tank took a knock over a rock, has a dent but not leaking so it's fine otherwise.
A exhaust head shield is loose so will get a new bolt and fix that.
The exhaust has a loose rubber bush so will get that changed.
Sidesteps, as usual, got a few creases etc. But have been jumped on and are back in shape again..

My results thanks to my navigator are 24th overall out of 67 entries and 19th in the Standard class.
Beating my mates from my Disco forum who entered in their Defenders..

For a first time with a standard car bar tyres and the sump guard, it surprised many people at how it would cope. There is a few Defender owner's who are a bit miffed at getting beat by a "Shiny"

Bar cleaning the wheels to stop the wheel wobble due to mud stuck on them. The car remains as muddy as the pictures show...

Any Freelander 2s there on the day? Just wondering how they got on?

I have a Land Rover experience day booked for next month to get some pointers and training in someone else's car, after that I fancy getting my own muddy if its up to the task!

No freelander 2s, the freeby 1 did pretty well considering the lack of ground clearance. He was 41st out of 67 overall so a decent score.

It will be getting washed properly next week as I've a week off work, will be getting the underside cleaned up as my Indy mechanic is coming to sort out the remaining wishbones. They are a pain to remove when clean so mud will make it harder again.

So shall be under it with the hose getting mud off everywhere haha.
