Wanted: Quiet winter retreat for 50 head Stag do......
Discussion
Well some poor b
d has decided he’d like to marry my Mother, I jest of course, I am sorting his stag do and the conditions of it are as follows:
• Quiet Country/Highland retreat
• Log fires
• Room for 50ish blokes to chill out and have a swally!
• Willing to take 50 guys
• Reasonably priced (after Xmas)
• Rooms for all to stay in or local hotels for this.
Has anybody got any good suggestions or does anyone here own a likely destination and fancy the winter (Feb) business?
It’s not going to be a rowdy affair as ages range from my younger brother (21) to some over 50-60 year olds.
A Days event/activity near by would be an extra bonus...
Over to the masses!
Looking for some good beers, whiskeys and other tipples to keep us warm by any fires available.

Piperdam? Log cabins.
I Just sent them an email after posting this, great minds, my concern is the size of group for somewhere like that. The group size maybe be only 40 people so 4/5 lodges would do it.
I like the idea of being so close to Dundee, never been for a night out, any good?
Piperdam gets my vote.
Stayed there for mother in laws 50th and it was great.
Some of the bigger lodges like the one we stayed in was more than adequate for 10, had a hot tub and plenty activities nearby like golf, quads etc.
A lot of the lodges are in close proximity to with large living areas and verandas etc for bbq/party.

This website might help you.

You might be better looking into hiring out an entire building for the stag do. It might sound like alot but when you split it down between 50 people things that seem ridiculous suddenly work out not too bad.

Piperdam is good, i spent a night up there a few years back.
Also have a look at Portavadie Marina, 5 minutes from Tighnabruaich http://www.portavadiemarina.com/
I haven't stayed the night, but visited there earlier this year. It looked very good, and it's in a fantastic part of the country.

I went to a stag do here:

It's just outside Aviemore and was good, clean, cheap and we had a night out in Aviemore with the Stag on the Saturday and to my surprise it was easy to get a taxi back to base. On the Friday we had a big camp fire and BBQ with more drinking in Aviemore on the Sunday.
To book it you're supposed to have someone connected to the forces or emergency services but we did not and they were fine about it. We did white water rafting on the Saturday which was good and had a great weekend.

These guys have several decent hotels in Argyll and have been on the go for a long time. They have all their own coaches (all new big ones) to ferry their guests about so they could maybe arrange that for you. Im sure they actually collect their guests from UK collection points as part of the deal. I have no relation to them nor experience.
You have a very powerful bargaining tool as any hotelier is going to be empty at this time of year so if they are open you've got a good chance.
Aviemore mentioned above is a good shout a its really nice now with plenty pubs and good transport options (Bus, Train and A9).

A couple of other places that just sprung to mind. Youth Hostels - Carbisdale Castle, went to a great wedding there a few years ago. There is also the big country house youth hostel at Loch Lomond nr Duck Bay - can't remember the name. These are both available for exclusive occupation. There will no doubt be others.

Both are closed. Loch Lomond has apparently been sold to a developer. cheers
