Edinburgh Bus/Taxi

Went to go and pick up my wife and son from Waverley yesterday whilst trying to find a parking space I was on a road just off Princes Street. When I looked around I noticed I was the only car and every other vehicle was a taxi or a bus.

I then see Frasers dept store in front of me and notice a sign on the left that said no entry apart from taxi's and buses so I quickly went in the left hand lane and didn't go up Princes Street.

I never noticed a sign on the road I was on but there was quite a few buses in the left lane so maybe the sign was obscured.

If I was in the wrong section do you get a fine?

Try explain to them you don't have knowledge of the area might aswell try challange them.

I got a away with a parking fine just by saying the paypoint machine had advertising stickers over the notification "4hour maximum stay"

Checked on Google maps and it was Randolph Crescent that I came out of. I remember there was a sign for cars to not turn right so I could only go left which took me onto the road where the buses and taxi's were. There was a lot of roadworks and steel barriers to my right and about four buses in the buses lane.

I didn't and don't ever use the bus lanes as a bit of a habit I have.

I then turned up Hope Street as I saw Frasers and the taxi/bus no entry sign in front of me.

You'll be ok. that stretch just opened a couple if weeks ago. no cameras there that i've seen (i work round there).
From randolph your meant to go along melville or alva.

Shermans route isn't a pavement, although the map isn't quite the right shape now after the recent work but the buses taxis and cycles only section thats been put in going round the front of Ryans bar.

On Princes Street only the sections from South Charlotte Street to South St Davids Street are closed to cars, though that access route from Hope Street to Queensferry isn't open to general traffic either. I fear you may have driven round there in an attempt to avoid one of the few bits of Princes Street you are permitted to use!

Reading the op first post it sounds like you were on Shandwick Place heading east in to town and took the general traffic route up South Charlotte street (two lanes going left, third right hand most lane signed up for buses etc only?), continued over on to North Charlotte down the hill then went left again to head round to Randolph Crescent (lots of left and right turns with some tarmac thrown over the cobbles in places?).

This being the case you shouldn't have been in there with the buses and taxis on Shandwick after the west end of Coates Crescent but there aren't any cameras in there yet and between 8pm and 6am its open to general traffic anyway.

I'm curious - how did you get along to the Waverley from Randolph Crescent?!?

Look again aly. Shermans route uses the cycle only pavement between randolph lane and charlotte square. it runs along the north side of west register house.

The op turned left from randolph cr, south down queensferry, following the road oast ryans bar on his left and fraser straight ahead as the road curved round into hope st and then to charlotte sq.
No cameras, he'll be ok.

When I click on his link and zoom down the blue line runs round the front of the 3d model of the Ryans bar building, not along the lane.

Still confused about where the OP was, especially after his second post as the only conspicuous no right turn sign up there just now is an instruction not to turn right up Lothian Road once on Princes Street.

Fundamentally what we can all agree on though is that there are no enforcement cameras up there just now and the OP, having not been stopped at the time, is in the clear!

Can't wait until festival time again watching the visitors trying to follow their sat navs...
