Arbroath?

Hi All,

Work may be taking to me Arbroath, what's the good areas to buy a house and where is to avoid? Also good bars ect?

Drink there too.

It's only 13 miles away.

I'm from Arbroath though I now live just outside the town. Lived and worked in or around it all my days so I know it as good as anyone. Sadly the town has went a bit downhill over the last couple of decades but its not all bad. Plenty areas to avoid but they will usually be fairly obvious as the houses will be dirt cheap. Re what area is best, it really depends what sort of budget you are looking at. Generally the west end is better but there are exceptions of course. Probably easier to ask me about specific areas/streets/properties you're interested in.

All of those would be fine, especially the last one as sits outside the town about 2 miles. Monkbarns drive is in a good area. There's also another one at Letham Grange you should look at, you'd have no problems or noise/hassle out there, and importantly, your car would be safe overnight.

I personally don't think its much worse than anywhere else to be honest.

I was maybe a touch harsh earlier - there are some lovely old houses around the Keptie Pond area, so not all bad

It was Iain - I had my BMW Avus Blue Griff 500 which I had between '97 & '02, we were parked at the side of the road in Broughty Ferry, not far from what is now Autoecosse.

well time will tell, wherever there will be a gated drive and the good car will always be in the garage,
and only day to day cars parked at the shops or whatever!!

Yes, the RS4 is a bit of a monster now with the supercharger, best car I've ever had by far.

Aye, I am about 9 miles into the countryside these days, but before joining the landed gentry I did live in the town in the Keptie Road / Monkbarns Drive area for about 5 years.

I always had a soft spot for Arbroath as a kid because I remember the beach, the seaside, the amusement arcade and the mini railway with a rosy glow. Not to mention fishing, and eating fish n chips. Being honest, the town centre probably has seen better days but there is still a certain charm about red sandstone buildings, the old Abbey, the harbor and the cliffs.

If I were moving to this area and fancied a modern house then Letham Grange suits the bill, or get one of the bigger houses out in the countryside where you still get value for money plus a bit of individuality

One of the Lotus crowd lived in Letham Grange and had a business with good quality car related tee shirts and stuff.

ps.. I was in seeing Charlie today. His new house in Letham Grange is really nice. Good to see he built a new double garage.... just next to the double garage. I like that sort of thinking

I've not seen his new house yet but I'm told it's very nice.

Occasionally, I help transport rescue greyhounds from a trainer quite close and will pop in past next time I'm doing that.

Does the new garage have a trap door leading to a dungeon with rubber suits and whips and chains and other depraved stuff?
