Renting during the Commonwealth?

I'm renting at the moment but in the market to get back on the ladder again.
I'm looking at flats in the nicer areas around Byres Rd in Glasgow, or Park. I've started to see some larger properties being offered for rent for the games for ridiculous prices (20k+). I'm only looking for a 2 bed but whatever I have will be finished to a high standard.
Has anyone looked in to this? Do you think there'd be a market for what I'm buying? I can move in to the OH's place if need be and of course remove and store all personal items... Or I could continue renting where I am for just a little bit longer.
