I'm looking to go on a weekday break in April to a nice affordable hotel for a couple of days, but there are a million of them to choose from. Not looking for Gleneagles or anything that costly
So i thought i would cheat a wee bit and ask for any recomendations on here. Looking for anywhere around an hour or so from Edinburgh.
Thanks in advance.

Sticking with 'affordable' We stayed here two weeks ago...

Bit closer to Edinburgh and two mins from St Andrews

They always have deals via groupon or itison.

Another vote for the Old Course at St Andrews, but then I'm biased as I got married there

Walking distance to nice pubs and restaurants and the town.
You'll struggle to find a hotel with nicer views than here http://www.hollytreehotel.co.uk/
Top quality food also.
It's a little more than an hour from Edinburgh though.

Agreed, I meant to include this in my post above. I've stayed here about four times and it's always been excellent. Top quality food also.

I've stayed at the Holly Tree as well - good food and quite a special location/setup
I'm also told that this one is quite good - a bit ££ but worth it

I would stay clear of Crieff Hydro, the lodges in the grounds are very good but the standard of catering in the hotel leaves a lot to be desired.
A bit further away but really excellent is The Coul House Hotel near Strathpeffer

Or further away but worth the drive is The Ceilidh Place in Ullapool.
