Personal Recommendations for this years holiday?

We have booked a motorhome for a week in July and are looking to head up North/North-West.

Can any of you recommend nice places to stop - campsites, or even nice places next to the beach/whatever.

It will be me, Mrs Chimp, our 12 year old daughter and Haggis the Cairn Terrier. I am conscious that my daughter may get a bit bored being cooped up in a campervan with us for the week so anywhere good for us to go with her in mind is also greatly appreciated.

Gairloch Sands has been mentioned on FB via the Mrs, will have a look over the weekend.

We have been invited to a wedding on Lewis on the Friday, but have to return the van to Kelty on the Saturday so unfortunately too tight time-wise.

Sand near Applecross is nice - but I'm biased. (Monty Halls escape was filmed there) Best beaches in Scotland are in Harris... if you're going to Lewis, head south.

Sands at Gairloch is definitely worth a visit.

Thanks guys - Gairloch Sands have been suggested on a post Mrs Chimp put on FB, as well as Dornoch.

I'll look into the other recommendations this week as we plan our itinerary.

Re things to do for daughter, few things to do in/near Aviemore. You have Highland Wildlife park and Landmark as well as outdoor activity places.

OK, so we have 2/3 of our destinations booked.

We are driving up to Grannies Heilan Hame in Dornich for the first 2 nights - lots to keep my daughter amused.

Then we are heading over to Gairloch Sands for 2 nights - bit more my thing, nice and quiet without being parked in the middle of nowhere on our own (I have seen Race With The Devil ).

So we are looking for recommendations for our final stop - was thinking Aviemore area or on the way down the A9, maybe 50 miles either side diable.

Anyone got any experience of these areas?

I think my Mrs would prefer at least some on-site entertainment or walking distance to amuse the bairn but this may be "negotiable".

Glenmore campsite near Aviemore is great, and there's a massive amount to do.

Dornoch has a nice beach and you are only a few miles from Dunrobin Castle which is lovely and they do Falconery displays in the summer.

Gairloch beach is nice but I really like Gruinard Bay which is about 10 miles north, worth a drive.
You have Ullapool not too far away and you could drive up there and back to Inverness/Dornoch/ Aviemore from there as both the Gairloch and the Ullapool from Inverness road's have amazing Scenery.

Regarding Aviemore there is plenty for your daughter, Landmark is couple of miles away and around Rothiemurchus you can go Clay pigeon shooting, hire bikes, Canoes, boats etc or go up the Cairngorms and do some hill walking, the views are stunning on a nice day. You can drive up then get on the Phenicular (spelling??) railway to go higher.

Spend a few days on Rum and Eigg. Feel like you're back in the 1970s again. Tremendously laid back. Can't take your car though. The drive from Fort William to Arisaig is awesome aswell.
