Morning team

Is it just me, but Police Scotland seem to getting very sneaky when doing speed check these days?

There's been quite a few times, especially, the time I pulled off at the Shell at Dreghorn and rejoined heading towards sheriffhall, marked X5 parked sideways pointing a speed gun out the window towards cars leaving them.

You wouldn't of stood a chance!

I've seen quite a few camera vans parked up firing the Laser Cannon of Resentment on the A90 around Dundeeish at night time. That's a new one on me.

You can't speed past a blind slip road anymore, it's silly to do so. They've been doing it for years on the M74, infact they now go a stage further and hide behind the double height guard rail under the big matrix signs.

I swear there was a copper spread eagled on top of an X5 aiming a gun Miami vice style the other day. It was almost invisible due to the height of the guard rail.

There was another one on foot about 100yds from the car on the. M74, he was running back towards it like the start of the Le Mans classic after getting a hit on someone. biggrin

Some of the sneakier places I've seen them have been:
- Eastbound on the A90 between Perth & Dundee, just before the hill to Castle Huntly. Hiding behind the green bollard things on the left. Particularly naughty I thought
- Turning N off the Kingsway at the Shell roundabout towards Aberdeen. Drops to a 40 there, seen them just down the hill

I guess their strategy might be to make speeding past a slip road a random chance type of affair. If you speed regularly and know that a copper may very well be pointing a laser at you as you're making your way down the road past all the slip roads, it might make you slow down

To be honest, I've never once been at more than 40 when going past the 40 signs on the way into Aberdeen (there's no excuse really, there's plenty of pedestrians and things going on down there) but I could see them catching many people out there.

I was meaning in Dundee, dropping down the hill off the Kingsway towards the Morrisons junction. Some people might miss the change from 50 to 40 as they round the corner at the Shell, lots of other things to pay attention to if you're unfamiliar with the road

One of them was parked on an M9 slip road I joined a few months ago, just after a bend in the slip. Narrow 2 laned slip, so I phoned the polis on them. Daft bds - live lane of a motorway and they're parked up blocking it with a large Beemer. Not seen anyone there again.

Fair enough. I suppose you could miss the 40 signs there

I had a nervous Christmas because of these fellas - they were out at night on both my trip down & back the following week, but seems I must've been ok.

M74 J13 over bridge (Abington turnoff ) was a favourite for a long time .Hidden on the right had side looking north. I only spotted the van after coming off to use the services. J14 overbridge as well . There's a long sweeping bend where the bridge is hidden from view .Same on A82 near Letterfinlay on the only decent passing stretch for miles. Another one, not so clever this time - desperately trying to merge in with the road sign in Glencoe near the ski lift road. Don't know why they bother here- I saw the white glint in the sun from miles further north. Shades of the Cumbrian lot.

I seen 2 stood with the speed gun on one of the flyovers/bridges over the Clydeside Expressway! Just about the Partick cut off. Sneaky gits

They have increased their number of "sites" that they use as well.

Also seen the traffic car parked off the flyovers on the Dun-Per stretch and plod in a disguised location WITHOUT hi-vis lasering folk....

On Monday, there was a van on a bridge over the M9 on a curve in the road - completely against ACPO guidelines. Unfortunately, when you get a unitary police force and one that, in this case, inherits the fascist mentality of Strathclyde, this was always going to happen. It'll continue until they start foaming at the mouth and asking for tanks…

I've said it before, but here again, George Orwell was spot on, just a bit premature.

Unfortunately ,when the speed freaks are caught with trousers down ,the guidelines are just thet ="GUIDELINES".
When they fail to notice that a prosecution fails because of illegal signs etc, that's a "LOOPHOLE"
